-NSFW- the resurrectionist
Added 2025-08-15 22:00:04 +0000 UTCI finished reading The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap and it is one of my favourite read of the year.
The romance is well build and is really lovely to read. You never question their affection for each other and that sweet relationship balance the very morbid and morally questionable acts that happen in the book. It is the first time I read a historical fiction that I felt it could actually have happened (minus the true crime event lol, but I liked how they were added into the story).
James, the narrator, really reminded me of John Watson with how enthusiasted he is about Nye's creations and plans, but he is more nuanced than dear John. James has a little bit of chaos in him that I really enjoyed reading. Nye is also a very charming character, the kind of character who had a rough life, but made a better life for himself.
If you like gothic, body horror, historical facts, true crimes, coming of age story with a sweet love story, then this book is for you! :) it is a stand alone, so no worries about waiting for a sequel.
