Seriously Need Advice + Video Easter Egg [BTS 6]

Ok, guys. This week's video is a bit different.

I've got a very emotional and controversial YouTube video that I'm debating releasing and I need your advice. Please think it over and let me know your thoughts after watching this video.

Thank you!

Always appreciate your kind words and support Brandon!

The dilemmas of being a travel filmmaker who specializes in sharing content that may be offensive or controversial to some. I would imagine you have tons of footage you've collected over the years that you can't post on YouTube. I think I would have reacted the same way you did. I like to open my mind to new things, though, so as uncomfortable as it may be to watch, I think posting at least some of it here is the best call. Personal growth is born out of discomfort, right? Obviously I'm watching this a few months after you posted it, and since I'm starting with your earliest posts and slowly making my way to the newest ones, I have no idea what you chose to do. I support whatever decision you made regarding that footage. :)

Brandon Moore

I think I'll do that. Once I cut together the Birthday footage, I'll put a couple extra clips here. Some of it is... ugh.. though...

I think you should show it here even if at least a bit. You already teased us what’s it about. Don’t leave us hanging. Share the experience. 😈 I, for one want to know what happened at the birthday party after the Etag purchase. I know Americans and most other Westeners morally object to eating dog meat but you have other subscribers from South Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines who thinks dog meat as part of their tradition, ritual, or day-to-day cuisine. And it’s not only an “Asian thing” correct me if I’m wrong but Canada still does not prohibit the serving and butchering of dog meat (as long that it is butchered under federal supervision), right? It might be taboo to most, but for some it’s as normal as eating bacon. Let’s be uncomfortable and grow. #ExperiencesOverPossessions

100% Man. Thoughts on me posting a bit of it here?

Exactly, with the pig we saw your growth and yes if we eat meat we should maybe kill then maybe we would eat less of it but the dog especially a pet dog is too far for us British, Canadian, American. 😎

Hey man! You are right. I haven't made it the next episode of that series yet, but I agree, it's not something as deep and motivating as some of the other experiences. It was uncomfortable, but didn't cause much growth besides "k... well.. this happens, and I have to respect it"

Hi Mike , my first comment as i just joined Patreon. I would definatly say dont post it, I love your content and I think we have a similar mind set (i love tea too) but personaly I wouldnt watch it. I would of maybe eaten it in that staring situation but i would try to avoid that if i could. Your not in the business of shocking people. You inspire and enlighten people, I know this beacaus after 1 message to your insta your replied with a truly inspirational message. Thank you. Short answer, shit happens out of our control, leave it, move on, keep up the good work.

Oh I've heard of some nasty stories about cats tool 😫

Because of the price. They are usually served on special occasions. And they usually tell you what they are serving because they are proud. They spent their hard earned money on you as a special guest. Don’t let me start about cats.....

I will spare you Marilyn of the details. 🤢 Because of poverty, we usually can’t afford vets, so when our pets die we just put them in empty sacks of rice and throw them or bury [if we have time ] in nearby empty lots. That’s when they come in.

I think this is the solution as well. I'll share some clips here, but not on YouTube. I might even have to sensor it for here a bit too, ugh it was rough.

Yikes! I didn't know about the dog grave diggers. That's really gruesome. 😲

I’ve been served and eaten dogs before. I’m originally from Tondo, Manila (well known for Criminality and Poverty). I don’t think eating dogs only exist in the indigenous parts of the Philippines. It is illegal but people find ways to find dogs to eat or sell as meat. There are dog thieves and dog grave diggers (yes. they dig and take newly dead dogs) to sell. I remember as a kid I find their ways of preparing it gruesome and shocking. They always argue about it being a ‘cultural’ thing. I don’t condemn people who practice this but I myself regret trying it.

I'm from Manila, Philippines and I have always been an animal lover, dogs especially. I have been around them all my life. While killing and eating dog meat is considered a crime in the Philippines, some indigenous comminities in the country are allowed to exercise this practice for "religious or cultural" reasons. Personally, I am absolutely against it but at the same time, I respect the indigenous people and their practices. I agree with earlier comments about the topic to likely be considered too "sensitive" if presented through a more popular platform such as YouTube. It will likely result in you being blasted all over the internet and for the Philippines to be viewed as a barbaric and primitive country and result in a hell storm internet debate. If however, you choose to release this in your Patreon Channel, where subscribers know exactly what to expect and are more open minded, then as a Filipino, I am all for it since I expect you will be able to present it with the goal of educating the viewers about the cultural diversity of the Philippines. 😊

That's a great litmus test man. Great thinking.

In my opinion there is a difference between experiencing something and filming it. In other words (and learning from what happened with Logan Paul) the problem is how you treat certain aspects of a local culture. Not everybody is prepared to see certain kind of content. In addition, I searched for an opinion of the late Anthony Burdain, and even he was an oppositor of this. I am quite sure he ate dog in his life but he knew the consequences of spreading the word. Nonetheless, he is still one of the most ´recognized and adventurous chefs ever.

Hahaha I was actually! My father watched this almost every night, and therefor so did my family. I've probably seen them all. Thanks dude.

Thank you so much for this Erin. Love this comment, and love that you're here with us. Thank you for this beautiful input #FearlessFam

Hahaha there WILL be haters, but it won't be the first time. This is probably be the most controversial video if I do.

This is a great response. I'm thinking I'll post at least a piece in. Unfortunately I didn't do much commentary about the dog... I was shook but I did do about the abuse of a chicken for a particular dish he was making (pinikpikan). If I can edit it to seem it for both then I think so.

Thank you Jesse. I think I will. This sort of thing has happened a few times in my travels. I'm happy I now have a place to share the stories.

I was going to write a really long thing about "What would Jean-Luc Picard do?" and compare how similar it is what you're doing with a Starfleet Away team. If you're a ST:TNG fan, you probably get where I'd have gone with that rant. I have to echo what Dave Christopher said. Try to find a balance between respecting both viewpoints. End of the day, go with your gut and don't doubt yourself.

Also definitely like this advice and Easter egg type video. It’s very personal and real! Would love to see more of it!

What drew me to your videos in the first place is the different cultures of people and their traditions. This unfortunately is one of those. It is a part of this world if we like it or not. And that is what your channel is about, travelling the world and showing it to the people who can’t do it themselves. People will find this absolutely horrible and people will be shocked with the reality of what really goes on out there, and people will be interested also. I don’t think that anyone would judge you for this. I for one, would not. There’s some messed up shit out there on YouTube, and I don’t think that this comes close. I say, keep doing what your doing, it’s amazing work, and it’s one of a kind! Good luck with your decision!!

I don't want to think you posted it just to go viral and more subs. This is a rough situation. You didn't ask for it, it was just an experience that happened in your travel. Ok, I say post it. Its not up to us to decide what parts of others culture is acceptable and what isn't. Maybe you should leave out the part of you petting and playing with the dog, and be prepared for the haters.

I also agree with what Dave is saying.

My first initial thought would be to post it. Like you said that's what your channel is about. That being said I would also say maybe don't post it. Your following is more likely to be from places where eating dog is taboo (ie. North America) and with that a video like that could really change the way people think about the channel. Many people will appreciate you for posting it but I'm not sure that would be the majority. That video might be better suited for this platform where we know content like that will come and we understand it. Thats just food for thought and I believe whatever choice you make will be the right choice.

I'd honestly be more worried about getting a strike from Youtube. If you do decide to put it up, be really honest about everything like you were here. And put a warning at the beginning of the vid.
