Physical 'Zine Club price increase

Theerrrre's no fun way to present this. I've been putting off making a post like this for a while now, I like the $5 price-point on my 'Zine Club, I felt like I was in no-way shortchanging members, or failing to deliver on what this Patreon promises, but I've kind of got no choice. I need to raise the price of the 'Zine Club to $9 a month.

Mainly the cost of printing has gone up. I feel myself scaling back in ambition on some of these self-published books, because if I print up a smaller comic, then I'll make a tiny bit of money per month, rather than having all the funds from this Patreon go directly into printing and mailing bills. If I raise the price, it'll incentivize me to continue publishing somewhat more ambitious comics, like the Good War on Terror and Gabagool! this past year.

I've never raised the price on this Patreon before, so I am not sure what to expect. I anticipate losing some Patrons, which I 100% understand. I do hope all of you who have been receiving comics the past few years feel like the membership value has been there. Maybe though, you aren't so sure about the value at a higher price. Again, I understand, but my hope is to feel more inspired to produce better higher quality comics once I don't feel like I'm losing money with this endeavor.

For the time being I'm going to keep the price of the digital 'Zine Club the same. Hopefully I'll retain a fair number of print 'zine members, and not feel like I have to change anything for the digital tier. I'm not spending money printing and mailing anything when I send out PDFs, so I shouldn't need to make any adjustments there.

I'm going to make the change to the tier price today, but that doesn't mean you'll be charged the newer higher price next month. Patreon allows 31 days for these changes to go into effect.

Thankyou to everyone for continuing to support me here, I can't say how much I appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Mike

I know it's a tough choice to make. I love received your printed comics so hopefully we might get more pages in the future.

Thanks Shane!

Thanks for explaining, and it all totally makes sense. I'm sticking around!

Shane Tilston

Thank-you, I really appreciate it!

I understand. Everything is going up, so it's natural to follow suit with the price increase. I'll still be here, since I find too much value in your work to let $4 be the wall keeping me from one of my favorite things too look forward to in the mail.

I thought the same thing. The quality of the printing was too high for a $5 payment. I'd already bumped down to the digital only, both for budget reasons and for moving my hoarding of comics onto hard drives rather than cardboard boxes, but the move makes sense to me.

Thanks John, that's reassuring to hear. I have been just about breaking even on publishing comics, but with the cost of printing having gone up, it's gotten much less doable

Not gonna lie - that's still a fair price. I was wondering how the heck you could keep it at $5 and make anything at all from it, let alone not going into debt, having looked into mini-comics myself...
