jpg does not like clear, defined shapes. One thing it excels at, for example, is nature photos. Because they are inherently noisy. One thing it definitely is not designed for, is hentai. Because it contains flat colors and sharp lines. Those don't compress well. Except if you draw photo-realistically : )
