Community Update - November 2024

Welcome to the first of our community updates here at Forgotten Adventures. We have so many new things going on and projects we’re working on; so we decided this would be the best way to keep you all in the loop and informed! But not to worry, community posts like this will be once a month at most.
This month we have several announcements, including: a new themed content month, a new livestream campaign, and word about changes coming to all Patreon creators and how that may affect you. So let’s jump into it!
First and foremost, we are now on Twitch! Give us a follow over at twitch.tv/forgottenadventures! We plan on experimenting with a lot of new video content for us on Twitch and on our YouTube, including making streams, Q&A sessions and community nights. But first we’re kicking things off with a livestreamed campaign called Fears & Fortunes! It’ll be airing on Wednesday nights starting November 20th.
It's a horror campaign with a wonderful cast, set in our own homebrew setting. It's the story of a halfling girl name Sly and her desire to live up to the legacy left behind by her grandmother, a beloved and powerful Seer known throughout the land. It features original character art from Caras Alexandra, unique and creepy tarot cards by Crhysbe, and a wonderful world map by smitchellmaps. Not to mention our very own tokens, maps and map assets, all on display November 20th.
Next up, we would like to thank all the community members who wrote to us about our last themed content month in September, known as Ceremonth. In cased you missed it, it was an entire month of content releases all themed on our favorite space traveling, brain eating, squid people. It was a lot of fun for us and you can expect us to do more themed months in the future…and the future…is now!
Welcome to our next themed content month, we call it Flesh Fest! If you like to add some body horror to your map designs, or are a fan of creatures who make your skin crawl, or map assets that are bloody disgusting…then this is the month for you! Check out the announcement trailer for it here!
Lastly, we would like to talk about some big changes coming to Patreon. You may have seen other creators address this with their audiences already, but we wanted to explain it here for those who haven't heard, and let you know how it will effect your Forgotten Adventures subscription.
What's going on?
Patreon is getting rid of the per-creation billing model, and forcing all creators to switch to subscription billing. They are making this change because Apple has decided they will remove Patreon from the iOS App if they do not.
Creators have a one year grace period before the switch is forced. So in November of 2025 all Patreon creators will be using subscription billing. Patreon has strongly been suggesting creators voluntarily switch over earlier than that.
As of November 1st, 2024 users will not be able to sign up on the iOS App to any creator not using subscription billing.
Apple takes 30% cut of subscriptions made through the iOS App store. As of November 1st, 2024 creators will have to choose to either eat that cost themselves, or offset them to consumers, meaning that Patreon subscriptions will be more expensive through the iOS store.
How does this effect your Forgotten Adventures subscriptions?
We plan on using the entire year grace period. This means that there will be no changes to how your Forgotten Adventures subscription works at this time.
As of November 1st, 2024 you will not be able to subscribe to the main Forgotten Adventures Patreon through the iOS App. FA: Battlemaps is already subscription based, so you can still subscribe to it through the iOS App.
As of November 1st, 2024 the cost of FA: Battlemaps subscriptions through the iOS app store will be increased by 30%. Please use desktop to subscribe to FA: Battlemaps to avoid the higher costs.
What happens to Forgotten Adventures in a year?
We are currently very busy evaluating our options and deciding what's best for our team, our community, and our patrons. We have a lot of ideas already, but also a lot of planning to do to figure out how we are going to adapt Forgotten Adventures to subscription billing when the time comes.
We will keep you updated as we make progress on our plans for adapting to these changes. While there will inevitably be some major changes to where and how we share our content, and tiers on Patreon, rest assured we'll still be drawing asset, tokens, and maps to share with you all, and, as always, most of it will be free.
