A hypothesis of what Fido is, in the second last image of Fido's flashback montage it shows an image of Shin when he was really young, with his older brother and Annette playing together before the war. Pieced together with this image from episode 8 (https://imgur.com/a/UbnZDbj) when we went to Annette's basement and was briefly shown a drawing of Shin's family and there was what looked like an animal (family dog?) in the drawing.
