This covered the Mercury space program. After this was Gemini then the Apollo program. Which brings me to a the HBO miniseries, "From the Earth to the Moon", which is a pretty accurate dramatization of the entire Apollo moon program. If you would like a deeper dive, this is it. Also, for an alt-universe space program story (purely fictionalized obviously), I highly recommend, "For All Mankind". which has 4 seasons with a fifth season likely to be released next year and already renewed for S6.

Ron

this mirrors the conversation we had when discussing the reaction and I gave the same explanation that at the time of the film he was a national figure but i think that's also the fun part of these reactions to see how well the movie tells the story to an uninformed audience member. Similary, I now realized Quaid and Ford have very similar smiles and gravelly voices. She may think Dennis Quaid is in American Graffiti when she sees it, who knows! Thanks for the great comment.

i am pretty sure everyone knew who John Glenn was when this movie came out. he would go on to be a senator after all. when i was a kid in the 90's, i knew who he was. we talked about him in school and he would again fly in space on the Space Shuttle!!! so, they probably didn't feel the need to show his successful splashdown. hopefully i am not coming off as condescending, it is very encouraging to see people taking interest in these movies and this period in U.S. history. in a time that is challenging to be a proud American it is uplifting to look back and these accomplishments and know what we are capable of and to look forward and reach for a bright future. can't wait to watch First Man with you shortly. that actor you thought was Jeff Goldbloom was in fact Jeff Goldbloom!!! the actor you thought was Harrison Ford was Dennis Quaid. i do see the similarities lol but imagine he was too busy with Return of the Jedi to be involved with this movie lol. all in all, great reaction!!!!
