The budget for this was 175,000 pounds in 19784, which was around $400k. Funded by Zeppelin, Floyd, and Ian Anderson, the co-producer was Michael Wright; the rest (36k) was contributed by a cricket team and three record companies. If anyone has a chance to visit the Boston Public Library, go to the Abbey Room. I swear this film has its storybook in the murals except for the very end, which was sketchy, figuratively and literally. It ran out of money, and by the time the film had reached that point, they had all been wet and cold for pretty much the entire 5 weeks of shooting. In true British fashion they had pissed off everyone so royally on the TV that they decided to have Arthur arrested. I was 16 years old when THG came out. That movie was probably quoted and referenced in school more than any other single reference. it was insane. French class - non stop ridiculous accents and movie references (of course including Peter Sellers). One of the eejits at school, Bailey, who was not the brightest spark, wrote down 'what kind of swallow?' .. in response to a Physics question. Then Life of Brian added to the available idiocy. Try Hamlet in a Pythonesque Frainch accent. It was British high school/College humor, which was not surprising because the cast came from Oxford and Cambridge Uni's. Check out the Cambridge links for the Floyd members.
