Ah ok that makes sense, to be fair though, 8th grade syndrome still means nothing to basically all English speaking people XD. I get why they translate it the way they do but it's kind of useless, I feel people would better catch on if it was just left as chunibyo.

Chuunibyou does actually mean 8th grade syndrome in a sense but a more direct translation would be second year middle school syndrome/sickness. Chuu refers to Chuugaku which means middle school, ni is just the number 2 and byou means sickness (Byouin for example is hospital). In japan, the school years are 6-3-3 so second year middle school is equivalent to american 8th grade, thus 8th grade syndome.

This show will test your patience. The dialog gets very cryptic in season 2 and 3. But the payoff is glorious.

I really don’t know why they’ve gone and made it so difficult to find all of the seasons😂

Real quick, regarding how we are all watching a totally legit version.... I see seasons 1 & 3 are on HiDive. Season 2 is harder to find for some reason, looks like it may be on Apple TV or iTunes.... 3 seems to be on Crunchyroll as well.

Yeah I've heard the romance is here and there in the beginning but it really kicks up towards the end of the show, which is totally fine by me, I like slice of life/drama shows too

Yeah like "eight-grade syndrome" does not make it any easier to understand lol.

By the way, concerning the genre, this show is actually quite drama focused. There is definitely quite a bit of romance stuff in season 1, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't expect it to become a main focus for a while still. But there is certainly already subtle stuff in these first 2 episodes, you just gotta really pay close attention to how the 3 MCs are acting while also having a bit too much romance on the brain if you wanna catch it.

Localising the term "chunibyo" has always been weird to me as well. It's not like a term like "Eight-grade syndrome" or "Delusions of Grandeur" make the viewer understand what it is any more than just the simple "chunibyou" just because it's an english term (After all, there's not really an actual english term for what it's describing, so they end up just making up a name anyway), so clearly it would be better to just use chunibyo so you don't end up with different localisations for the same thing every time you watch a different anime
