Carry Positions

Shawn Ryan of Vigilance Elite and Manny Gomez from Palm Beach Tactical talk about different ways to conceal, different positions to conceal and what works for them.

How are you guys carrying these days? Let us know in the comments below.

As always, adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

Finding the right fit and carry system that fits you personally is important. For most people if it ends up being too much, they'll leave their gun at home.

Shawn

I hear that. I still run a 19 from time to time but that slim 365 is just hard to beat.

Shawn

Tuckable is a good option. Really helps with deep carry.

Shawn

Nice!

Shawn

I have petty much mothballed my 19 and switch to the 365xl. I find a minimalist holster in the appendix position works well for me. Thanks for introducing me to the 365. My xl runs great.

Work I wear a suit. For the office days, it’s a G43 with a tuckable holster. It’s concealed and comfortable while sitting most of the day. When I’m in the field, often in bad parts of Minneapolis it’s my G17 or my sig x-carry. Still tuckable holsters are a must. And for days when I’m rolling into the riot areas, it’s my Glock 17 at my 3 o’clock and my .300 pistol with a law tactical folder in my backpack ready to roll. ( fucking car riots and car jacking are no joke downtown ) When driving I have my pistol upholstered under my left leg pointed at the door just in case. Yay Minneapolis!

Ahahaha bring back manny!

I have learned a ton from these videos. Thanks Shawn and Manny.

I just bought a Phalanx VE holster because it has the tuckable belt clips. I usually default to an untucked shirt, but my wife and I just started going to a new church, and I get the stink eye from all the old folk because I roll in with untucked shirts. Holster was shipped today, so I’m excited to try it out.

If anything, the chances of a negligent discharge is lowest while carrying appendix (if you have a well-made holster). It's in front of you where you can control it, even with two hands if you need to, you can easily inspect your holster for obstructions, and you can look the gun the whole way into the holster which is all harder to do if the holster is to your side or behind you. The consequences for a ND while carrying appendix are definitely bad, though. But I'd argue they're less likely to happen. But I'm just some guy. Just my thoughts.

Thomas R

Is there any danger of an accidental discharge while carrying appendix? Or would the holster prevent this? Thanks!

Brandon

Appendix is hard to beat once you get used to it.

Shawn

I run mostly appendix IWB. Full size often around 12:30-1:00. Compact 1-2. Subcompact (G43/48, P365) has somewhere between 20-45 degrees of cant with the apex being just inboard of the centerline of my thigh. This is one area I feel is really overlooked. Gun has to fit you and your life just as much as it has to be reliable. And how you carry it will play into if you carry it. Once I took that approach to make it custom for me not thee, I have a gun setup that works no matter where or what I’m doing.

Wayne Cope

Appendix is doable once you get used to it.

Shawn

Leg holster is too much for EDC.

Shawn

Went to appendix a couple of years ago and still running it.

BillB

Appendix all the way. Even sitting, sometimes I just adjust it by tipping the grip away from me a tiny bit to get it less "in" my gut and more "on" on gut if that makes sense.

Thomas R

I used to wear a leg holster but I would get dirty looks when I wore shorts.
