DA/SA Transition

Hello Tier II and Tier III,

Wanted to check in and see how training is going with those of you who are running DA/SA pistols.

Lots of footage clearing editing this week. New VE YouTube coming soon. Thank you Patrons!

Got a lot of questions since Patreon started about training the double action and single action transition. Lots of pistols with this classic operating system Sig, Beretta, HK, CZ and a ton of other models.

Basically, you have to drill over and over again shooting that double action shot.

Most of the gun brands listed above also make single action (SAO) variants of the same model or were also designed to be carried cocked and locked like a 1911 *verify in owners manuals for each model.

This system requires more training which is part of the appeal of the Striker Fired or Safe actions in systems like the Glock, M&P, XD and a ton of other polymer systems. Having one trigger pull is an advantage for my money. Also the striker fired stuff tends to be a bit easier on the wallet.

*As always, adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

I didn’t know they discontinued the p220! I purchased mine unfired from an individual, it’s the satin stainless model and it’s gorgeous. I paid him $1200 for it and that price might turn out to be a bargain in a few years. Remind me of that unfired 1982 colt python I purchased for $2500 about 10 years ago! 😊

I have a feeling those old Sigs are going to be expensive later. They discontinued the P220 recently. It'll be interesting to see how the pricing goes on the used market the next 5 years.

Shawn

😂They are still cool.

Shawn

They have that classic operation about them.

Shawn

Those are some badass guns man. Putting rounds down range is always good. I switched to Glock and never looked back but those old Sigs are still cool and probably always will be.

Shawn

Nothing wrong with hammer fired DA/SA if you train on it and know how to use it. Might end up being like the 5 speed stick shift of the pistol world. Still awesome if you know how to drive.

Shawn

All depends on the model. Most modern ones can be dry fired empty. Read those owners manuals. 👊🏼

Jon keeps bringing up that new Q4 Steel Frame. Looks pretty cool. The stock trigger in those Walther striker guns is pretty awesome.

Shawn

lol ...cocked

I own a P220 myself but it’s a novelty pistol in my “collection.” It’s nothing I’d ever carry....though I do carry a P239 SA/DA as a spare in my “go-bag.” My EDC is a P365 XL Romeo Zero. It replaced my Glock 43x

DA/SA pistols? Are we hunting dinosaurs? jk jk...unless...

Aoi

My favorite, owned pistols to shoot are DA's. That said, I would carry my SA's.

Have 5,000 rnds through each of my SIG P226Rs totaling 10,000 rnds doing fundamental drills. The First shot is always way different than the second, especially when using a SRT trigger

Grew up on hammer fired pistols. My EDC is P365 but I still love to shooting my CZ75s. Thanks for the video Shawn.

Do you dry fire with snap caps like a revolver? Or is it safe to dry fire on an empty chamber?

Paul Jankins

Yes. 1911s are also single action

Paul Jankins

My EDC currently is a Walther PPQ 9mm and it’s hard to argue that there’s a better striker fired (mil-spec) trigger out there... not sure I’ll convert to a DA/SA configuration.

Nicholas Soper

Are striker fired handguns also referred to as single action? Whenever I hear single action I assume your talking about an old colt single action revolver.
