In this video, Mike Ritland talks K9s with Katie. It was awesome getting some insight from Ritland and being able to pick his brain from this perspective. He makes some pretty solid points for having a protection dog.

2021-04-28 14:10:20 +0000 UTCSeriously appreciated Mike's insight on this, vs. what I had been told on various things like "a trained guard dog can't be a family dog", "Giving a professional K9 a family environment will ruin the dog for work". I have even known police officers that do K9 or train dogs for their department that have said some of those things, and I wonder how many of them are going off of "old school" doctrine vs. a good selection process.

2021-04-27 23:39:27 +0000 UTCWhen we purchased our LGD's, our breeder insisted that she pick our dogs. We could choose male or female, but she made the call on which one suited our situation. At first, we were skeptical, but we quickly realized we were dealing with a serious breeder. She is two for two.
