Carbine Fundamentals: Shooting and Moving

Hello Tiers II and III,

In this update I cover the basics of shooting and moving.

Don't go full Elmer Fudd mode. You want to keep the rifle on the same plane and move fluidly. Remember you want the rifle to be moving in a straight line towards the target and minimize how much it is moving up and down on each step.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Always handle weapons safely. Weapon on safe, finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, visually and physically verify that firearms are clear and safe.

SAFETY

REMEMBER: YOU ARE ALWAYS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY ROUND THAT LEAVES YOUR BARREL.

When handling a gun, follow these three fundamental rules:

  1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.
  2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.
  3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does.

When using or storing a gun, always follow these nine important rules:

Adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands/protocols at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

Shawn

Thanks Oksana! More fundamentals coming soon.

Shawn

I have the same issue from my iPad. Not sure why, but I just watch from my phone or computer until it works itself out.

Devin Medeiros

Devin, yes I am. I wonder if it was a recent update.

Randy smith

Are you watching from an iPad?

Devin Medeiros

Oh man, I knew all those years being a dork in the marching band would pay off!

Derek Ferguson

"Be very, very quiet" ...

Stefan Andersson

Elmer Fuddling it - How many actually got that reference?

Eric Liittschwager

No sound for me again!

Randy smith

Good stuff. With ammo being scarce, you can use a laser bore sight or attach a laser pointer and practice while you dry fire. Extra points if you have a cat.

Brett Benefield

Outstanding!!! Thank you for another crystal clear refresher on fundamentals!!!

James

Very informative and detailed! Thank you very much! Looking forward to practice it tonight.
