22LR For Pistol Training
Added 2020-10-16 04:39:18 +0000 UTCHello Tiers II and III,
In this video I cover my take on training handgun with a dedicated 22LR pistol. This video also covers a bit on training new shooters. I know a lot of you on here are teaching your families as well as training so I hope this helps give some insight.
As always, adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands/protocols at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

The tip on one round in the mag is awesome can’t believe I never thought of that. Thanks. I have a 1911 that Fred Craig built for me in 1985 and carried it throughout my entire career. I bought a wilson 22 conversion for it which basically switch s out the barrel and slide, used it more as a hush puppy than practice, cause I believe as you do, practice with what you carry. I carry an sig p365x now cause I’m old🤣 but still qualify with my 45 every year. Thanks for the great tip

2024-10-20 22:06:57 +0000 UTCI appreciate the video Shawn. Should make an addendum with the Glock 44, or the FN 22. I love the Glock 44, the trigger is the same, the mag is the same dimension, and it fits in all my holsters from my Safariland to my ccw. In this economy and with the ammo shortage I use my 22 a ton for transitions, drawing, basically everything except recoil and follow ups. Typically I will shoot a few hundred rounds on my 22 then switch to my 9mm after I am warmed up. Learned it from Jerry M. I want a 22 upper for my AR next just to get more and more time at the range before I shoot the real things.

2021-02-16 01:55:11 +0000 UTCA single round in the magazine for a brand new shooter could be a life saving measure. You never know how someone may react to that first shot. An instructor at a range in Tampa lost his leg when a new shooter got hit by the brass from her shot and panicked and ended up shooting him in the leg while frantically moving around due to the brass.

2020-12-08 05:11:50 +0000 UTCI bought a Glock 44 in 22LR thinking that I would use it for practice instead of my 19, but that plan was quickly put aside. Now, the 44 is essentially my 12 year old daughter's gun, and she and I go to the range once per week to practice. She has gotten really great at handling it, not only shooting but disassembling, reassembling, and cleaning. So, in the end I am glad that I bought the gun because it allowed one of my daughters and I to get quality time together doing something we both like.

2020-12-08 01:59:18 +0000 UTCI've been shooting more of those than the other calibers lately for the same reason.

2020-11-28 05:56:12 +0000 UTCI am using AK47 rounds cause they are cheaper then 9mm at this point 🧐

2020-11-26 16:43:23 +0000 UTCUnintended perk on the malfunctions. That's pretty funny man. 22LR is great when teaching your kids how to shoot responsibly.

2020-10-22 04:37:08 +0000 UTCI bought two SIG mosquitoes to teach my kids how to shoot safely, grip and sight alignment, and recoil. Worked perfectly for that. But the biggest surprise about the whole experience was just how good they got at how to properly and safely clear jams. With every magazine there would be a malfunction they would have to address. After showing them how to recover, they got really good at it. They got so good at it, they got faster than I am at clearing and continuing.

2020-10-21 14:16:31 +0000 UTCI second that! This one had zero recoil and was a blast to shoot.

2020-10-17 04:17:32 +0000 UTCIf you're only going to go with one gun I like a good striker fired 9mm compact or full size from one of the main established brands, Glock, S&W, HK, Sig Etc. 22 Pistol is still fun to plink with though all about priorities.

2020-10-17 04:17:01 +0000 UTCP239 is a cool gun. They don't make em anymore. I usually suggest the G19, easy to learn on, one trigger pull, minimal recoil. Keep on it!

2020-10-17 04:04:12 +0000 UTCBought a P239 in 9 for my wife several years ago...because it is what Ziva David used, I think. ;) Anyway, when she shot it, she thought is was too big, so we almost sold it. Since then, and after shooting smaller guns, she found the 239 shot the best. Still, we have an SP101-7 shot in 22lr and a 4 in barrel, that I think will work for her. It's also heavy, but she's gotten used to the idea, and recoil is nil. I just told her that if she has to actually shoot it is self defense, use all 7! Love the wisdom, Brother. Please keep passing it along.

2020-10-17 02:32:50 +0000 UTCMy .22 pistol is a “plinking” gun. Can’t be beat for going out back and shooting cans.

2020-10-16 21:31:18 +0000 UTCWell, this just saved me $400. My only experience is with shooting rifles and I was thinking of buying a .22 pistol just for practice. I'm going to rethink this.
