Pistol Fundamentals: Clearing Malfunctions
Added 2020-09-16 03:01:08 +0000 UTCHello Tier II and III,
In this video I cover clearing basic malfunctions applied to pistol shooting with a semi-automatic.
Next time you are at the range and experience a malfunction, you want to be able to identify, clear and get the gun back in action safely.
The idea is that we want to be able to identify and clear malfunctions in real time and get back in the fight. Make sure to mind your muzzle when clearing malfunctions. Know where you are pointing your weapon at all times, finger out of the trigger guard.
This is the most common clearing method for most jams in semi-automatics.
Please leave any questions in the comments below.
Cheers!
As always, adhere to all firearms safety rules and range commands/protocols at your facility. For more info on safety, see https://www.nrablog.com/articles/2015/7/the-rules-of-nra-gun-safety/

2024-05-18 21:29:35 +0000 UTCI'm a long time shooter, with very little formal training (until signing up for the Patron level), and I find these videos incredibly helpful. Going through these drills (training) are extremely important for me. Thanks Shawn.

2021-01-20 17:39:36 +0000 UTCPretty common issue with an aggressive grip. If it doesn't lock openI'd probably tap rack bang to make sure there wasn't a round in the chamber because you'll likely have a click instead of a bang when you are empty and muscle memory will take over. When it slide locks, you know you're empty. Reload and slingshot. Slide lock reload is usually easier to seat the magazine too. If you hit it too hard when locked open, it can actually cause a malfunction. Hope that helps!

2020-10-13 04:06:34 +0000 UTCQuestion: I often ride my slide stop with my gripping hand (working on it, I know bad habit) I just have big hands and this happens especially with my P365, sometimes other pistols. I occasionally fail to get a slide lock open. Is the proper way to Tap-Rack and when it slide locks, perform the reload? Sorry if that's a sh!tty explanation.

2020-09-21 16:37:17 +0000 UTCThanks for reinforcing the importance of this skill/drill. I myself have dropped a couple of half loaded magazines not abiding by these principles. Luckily it was during training. Lesson learned.
