Start of Month Q&A

Next chapter will be out in a couple of hours.

In the meantime, if anyone has any questions I'll do my best to answer them.

He can't, he was born in Eira, a [Hero] specifically always has to have come from a different world/realm.

Kennit Kenway

Damm, Aether was much more powerful than I thought, no wonder Sylvar respect him so much he says it wouldn't be the ibis without him, wonder if he can be considered artificial hero, both his parents were god killers.

Yuval Roth

How powerful was Aether in comparison to Sylver, demons, gods and Nyx? He could basically one shot everything save for a god. If he had time to prepare, he could one shot a god (but there are consequences to killing/hurting a god so he never tried or considered it.) Why are heroes from earth so powerful, is it the lead, can you make artifical hero by raising a child in null magic environment while feeding him lead? They are chosen by gods because they have a good compatibility with the realm they are being transfered into, and the fact that they were raised in a manaless place means that Eira's mana is basically magical steroids to them. You could make an artificial hero, and that is basically what a lot of mage families do, they marry/breed with people in an effort to create the perfect bloodline/affinity for their bloodline. Can high level soul magic use demons or even spirits as wands to break laws of magic? Essentially yeah. Sylver once forced a bunch of demons to conduct a ritual to create a path back to the Ibis. Breaking laws of magic wouldn't work without the demons/spirits consent, since the soul mage wouldn't know what the demon could do. Demons/spirits have limitations, and rules, but they are different from the ones mages follow.

It's because he is undead, and his Koschei class classifies him as an undead creature. By all right his HP should be negative from the start, and shouldn't matter, the only reason he even has HP at all is because he went out of his way to keep Ciege's body alive. Most classes get HP boosting perks, but even when Sylver got them during his level ups, he ignored them in favor of MP related perks.

Kennit Kenway

I'm from Russia, but I haven't lived there in over 10 years.

Kennit Kenway

I get that people have Perk or etc who give more HP, but really why Sylver HP seem so fucking little in the amount vs absolutely everyone and everything all the time having HP in the +10k range for what seem "low" level (did our MC have a real/special reason for this?) I feel all time its a bit off or exagerrated with the amount of HP we see each time it appear in some appraisal vs what Sylver HP have It is because Mage? (still seem a bit off with all other example we got before of mage) Or its some Undead thing/reason? There are to be a specific reason no? that he seem very different vs other people on the amount of HP?

Zarik0

That one of the strong point of this story, because you nailed it before (the framework) so we dont get little contradiction or feeling off by thing appearing who dont seem right with all we get before in little tidbit about it in some past chapter, a lot of story get a negative point for me on this (im a bit a sticker on that) because they cant get thing straigh at a minimum and stay really consistant and what it entail everytime with what they introduce, that ruin my reading experience a bit when it appear So by doing this AND by giving us the tidbit/infodump little by little (so we can explore it bit by bit and it stay mega consistant for people who follow and are sticker on aspect like that) its just perfect on this point in this story :)

Zarik0

Where are you from? Which country?

Thank you. When I say the word "money" by itself it nearly always comes out as the voice of Jackie Chan's boss in Super Cop when he's pretending to be JC's grandmother.

Person

Can confirm. TPGE is incredibly good

But also I loved Overlord, and thought necromancy/undead weren't being used to their full potential. I though having an MC who was native to the world would be easier to write than one that's not, and the rest is just stuff I liked reading about, and thought other people might also write. Sylver Seeker would be my favorite story of all time, if I wasn't the one that wrote it

Kennit Kenway

What inspired you to write about Sylver and his world?

Person

Is it possible for Syler to become a true Lich again or is that forever denied to him since he's bound to the needle? If he figures out how exactly his soul is bound to it, and is able to unbind it, he can become a true Lich. The problem is that he's afraid of experimenting on it to figure out how it works.

Noble Defect

Memetic kill agents, and thanks!

How full is Sylver's anger jar? It's been full to the brim since the start, he's still angry about the events of chapter 1. He's got different jars, and has filled several up by now. And if he were to snap, if he were to sacrifece everything how much destruction could he achieve currently? I was always wondering how much Sylver knowledge could bring him. I forgot what its called but there's a thing in the SCP wiki about certain words/phrases causing people to go insane/die if they hear them. Sylver has a bunch of those memorized, if he really stopped giving a shit, he could just start screaming out forbidden phrases and within the span of a day a demon would end up getting summoned. It would probably kill him in the process, and there are other dangers with using those phrases, since there's a chance they might not kill someone, and could instead make them extremely powerful.

When Sylver explained spell tiers, what I understood was that each tier was effectively adding another simultaneous process. Is that understanding correct? Pretty much. The magic gets more complicated, but also more efficent, and the rule of thumb is that it gets more powerful. Think of it as being limited to 100 characters worth of code at tier 1, and being limtied by 200 characters at tier 2. I’ve seen you mention the “Gellman constant,” or something that sounded similar. Is that, like, the magic equivalent to light speed? Basically yeah. It's the magic equivalent of the physical limit of microchips, 7nm, anything smaller than that doesn't work. Is Sylver considered a true immortal, or just effectively immortal, given the fact that his phylactery can be destroyed? Effectively immortal. Did Sylver inherit Nyx’s sigil-things? No, they can't be inherited, it's like a diploma, the person who earned it, owns it. The bound bones storage; I know quality matters, but how much does size matter? Is it a one-to-something-ratio, or is it exponential? Is size determined solely by volume, or does being long but thin change things? Does the density matter? Soley by volume. It's like a balloon, the more you place in 1 bone, the higher the mana cost of storing another item in it. Shape matters a little, but with the amount of mana Syvler has rn its negligible. If sylver’s true head is in his chest, why does he have his brain in his not-head? Or is it a second brain? It's like a relay brain, more than an actual second brain. He doesn't think with his brain, he thinks with his soul, his brain is just the easiest thing to control/coordinate his body with. If his needle was in a detached hand, he could move it around and case magic through it (somewhat) Sylver can shorten himself in order to blend in with the short people, and his still-short shades, right? Why dislocate his hip, when he can just shorten a leg just a little bit? He can compress his limbs, but he needs to actively do it, and it costs mana, dislocating his hip doesn't cost anything, and has the intended effect. Did Sylver stop using his knife-plate-mail-thing? He's got bullet proof vests inside his robe now, but he does have the knives near his spine whenever he's fighting, just in case.

Kennit Kenway

how much of your magic system did you have nailed down when you started your story versus how much are you juggling on the fly? Not when I started my story, but it was set in stone around chapter 25 30. The limitations of it, requirements, types of magic/energy, mana vs Ki all that stuff, has been consistent with what I decided on since chapter 30 *Gods/Demons/Spirits/Heros/certain creatures are cannonically not limited by the rules normal mages/undead lich necromancers are. I'm curious since Sylver making huge reveals is always fun and I wonder how much lead time you have mentally to set up before introducing something new? I have to be carefull not to infodump all the time, because I could write a literal book on the lore/worldbuilding stuff. If I feel something is going to be important in the chapter I'm writing, or in the near future, I try to introduce it within the chapter, or a chapter before that chapter, so people aren't caught off guard. But mostly I look for a good spot where the MC can explain the thing as part of a convo so it isn't a boring wall of text, and is easier to read/digest.

Hi Kennit, big fan of your story, especially your ruminations on the philosophy an immortal would end up developing over time. But on a more practical note from another fantasy author, how much of your magic system did you have nailed down when you started your story versus how much are you juggling on the fly? I'm curious since Sylver making huge reveals is always fun and I wonder how much lead time you have mentally to set up before introducing something new?

Robert Hinshaw

How are you?

Boneless Mango Bird

How much can soul magic do? Technically anything ,since after a certain point a mage can use another mage's soul like someone would use a wand and force the mage to cast spells for him. What are its limitations? Some people are born immune to soul magic, regardless of what tier of soul magic is used. Apart from that, soul mages are super rare, because they end up ripping their own souls out at some point, and very few are lucky to have someone nearby to put their souls back in their bodies. (+ What does higher tier necromancy look like?) Undead dragons that are immune to magic. The more normal undead also retain their skills and magic and they go from being a "hoard" to being an actual "army."

Kennit Kenway

It just ended so if you're tryna binge something I HIGHLY recommend it.

The 9 books with Fitz Farseer as the MC, by Robin Hobb. Also Overlord, but that one I like conceptually more than I like as a book/series.

Kennit Kenway

Not yet, but it's on my to-read list. I've heard a ton of good things about it.

Kennit Kenway

Have you read The Practical Guide to Evil?

What is your favorite novel?
