I know I’m late to the conversation, but thank god the Times Square casino bid was rejected. I read that they were actually trying to use Beyoncé’s connection to Jay Z as a lobbying tactic, which just felt tacky and desperate. Honestly, I work in local government, so I’m not surprised, this is classic “myth of bipartisanship” stuff. You quickly learn that no matter where you stand, you’re surrounded by the same games from all sides. At the end of the day, liberalism is just conservatism in nicer clothes. Jay Z (and by extension, Beyoncé) still haven’t figured out that the whole Black liberal grift doesn’t play the way it did in the 2010s. For a while, it seemed like Bey was kinda reading the room a tiny bit, pulling back a bit from overt money-and-capitalism apolitical themes dressed as liberalism in her music (the height of it was 2016–2019). You know the whole “two billionaires is better than one” bullshit. But then there’s the dinner with the Kushners, which makes it clear that old habits die hard. Do I think this latest controversy will do anything? Probably not. But between the Times Square casino flop and their new ties with the Trumps, they’re starting to run into the limits of the hustle. It’s funny how Trump convinced people that “businessman” automatically equals “good politician.” That trick barely works for him anymore, let alone for Jay Z—who isn’t even the world-class mogul he’s hyped as. He’s a product of a specific moment: 2010s capitalism dressed up as Black liberalism. And unlike Trump, he doesn’t have the safety net of whiteness or generational billionaire status. He’s a Black man moving into business deals that overlap with politics—and the privilege gap is going to catch up to him fast.

People give celebrities too much credit. You can like who you like but dont sit there and act like they're saving the world with their music. Most celebrities have zero impact culturally. To be known doesn't mean you're actually changing the world in any meaningful way, but we like to think famous people get where they are do to working hard and being deserving rather than a lot of it just being luck. Music and art is so commercialized and commodified to the point it's sanitized and meaningless. Celebrities are not virtuous. If anything, to be famous is to be the exact opposite. We have to stop looking to people who's goal is to leave us normies behind to be our representatives and our voices.

I think Beyoncé operates from a perspective of legacy. She wants to generate money but very rarely does she throw money to make more money. That’s the difference between her and Jay-Z but that’s likely an effect of their upbringing. Beyoncé grew up middle to upper middle class. She doesn’t operate out of a fear of losing money. She operates out of her family legacy as her family built their dreams of going further on her. Jay-Z is a kid that group of poor and a lot of poor people that become successful via money are trying to outrun that. That feeling of not having. That’s why he does what he does even if it can be morally bankrupt. Beyoncé knows that if she loses money, she relies on her talent and work. She’ll just go on tour. Jay-Z doesn’t feel the same. Hence, the mogul narrative and images.

I definitely agree that I’m sick and tired of the Knowles/carters black excellence grift, it grinds my gears and makes me cringe. Jay z in particular hasn’t made anything revolutionary for him to be put on a pedestal. However, I am going to push back on a couple of things. One, the charity event is actually a part of this organization called reform that was founded by Jessica Jackson and Micheal Rubin. The event was organized by Micheal Rubin’s company fanatics. Anyways back to reform. The organization has actually done a lot of work in prison reform for the past couple of years including shorting probation time and making it possible for past offenders to take out loans. They have actually passed 22 bipartisan legislation in different states for prison reform. I think the main reason why Jared kushner was there was because as awful as he is, he has been an advocate for prison reform. Now, it is still fuck jay z, and I pray one day Beyoncé will leave him, but just wanted to give context and a backstory. Now, when you said Beyoncé hasn’t done anything for black people or people in general, I have to disagree. 20 years ago when hurricane Katrina happened, she was one of the main celebrities donating money for relief to families in need, in 2010 when the whole Haiti thing happened she donated. She has also giving scholarship money to hbcus and black beauty schools, and small businesses through beygood. As well has supporting AIDs research, and LGBTQ balls as well. In 2023 I believe, her and Kelly, set out a project to build new homes in Houston, texas. As you know, the fires in LA happened earlier this year and as a California native, I have really been invested in helping the community. Beyoncé and beygood, have been very instrumental in supporting families through donating supplies, resources and rebuilding LA. Beyoncé is far from perfect, and the black excellence grift is tired, but to say that she hasn’t done anything is very absurd. Also, on her “politics” I think Beyoncé has made it very clear were she stands. Considering she was the only celebrity who supported Kamala the most in the last election, as well as Obama, Clinton and Biden. Even sent trump a cease and desist for trying to use her music. I don’t think she likes republicans, jay z likes republicans, I think she tries to be cordial. But yeah, great, vid those are just my two cents.
