Ebro does bother me though. He need to shut upšŸ˜…

Rainy Feathers

OMG! Yes! When I rewatched The Color Purple a couple years back, I was like are they expecting me to believe Whoopi Goldberg is supposed to be ugly in this movie? She was literally gorgeous

Alissa Jadyn

Very much so

Caitlin Perkins

Girl wtf?? This is CRAZY

Caitlin Perkins

If Pam and Gina were flipped, people would think she was plotting on Martin or vice versa.

Eboni Haynes

I hate when black people act obtuse about colorism. You can’t be black and not understand colorism

Iman

I’ve also never watched Love Island… never plan to

Snazzy Jazzy

this conversation reminds if this tweet i saw a long time ago. there was this darkskin girl who was in lingerie, oiled up, face beat and hair done. and of course everyone was taking about how beautiful she was, which she was! but someone quote tweeted is saying something along the lines of ā€œwhy does a dark skin girl have to be oiled up, makeup/hair ā€œdoneā€ for y’all to see how beautiful she is?ā€ and if that ain’t the truth…

Abisoye

no bc black men believing blackness comes from the father is sooo real bc this guy (with asian wife btw) was arguing w me saying i can’t claim being black bc my dads dad is white- i’m like okay 😭

tanieah

The worst part about that video is her naming Lupita Nyong’o name like be insecure but to open another black woman up to harm cause you want to perform for ppl on the internet is so insidious and malicious.

Ola Ogun

28:00 is so true because I had no business following AndreasChoice and Itsmyrayeraye hair care routine with my 4c hair. Alhumdulilah I’ve grown out of itšŸ™ŒšŸ¾

Rihab

it wasn’t lost me that on Martin, Pam was always beneath Gina in a professional sense. Gina got all the promotions and career advancement opportunities meanwhile Pam was her personal assistant almost the entire show. There was one episode where Pam gets her shine and Gina couldn’t stand it (it can be argued Pam was slightly power tripping but can you blame her?) and they made Pam look foolish until Gina came to save the day. The only time Pam really got her moment is when Gina was practically removed from the show (season 5 when Tisha appeared less and less). And isn’t that crazy? Also was never a fan of Pam & Tommy dating because even when they were together, he never really defended her against Martin’s cruel jokes. He would laugh. The only instances where he would defend her was if Martin had made a joke against them both.

a.sierra

once i saw people online saying ā€˜yall just don’t get it, olandria is the type of woman rich white men LOVE’ as some kind of defense i knew we had lost the plot…….

cc

i would love to hear you whack people on the low racial self esteem topic

a.sierra

this reminds me of how folks talked about that statue

Imani Branch

divestors are agents of the patriarchy

Imani Branch

nnn ran back here after watching the intro…it’s the way that i already know what kind of ā€œpretty black girlā€ she’s talking about. divestors…colorists in general have been too loud with that kind of dog whistle / rhetoric for me to look past that as just ā€œmeanā€ or ā€œflippantā€

momo

People act very obtuse about colorism in a way that’s so disgusting. The glee they have when they deny or act dense about colorism just reeks of mental colonization and screams ā€œplaying games with massa’s toolsā€

momo

School Daze was my introduction to colorism and it came out in the 80s.

Selene

I dead ass thought that had to be AI at first

Halimat

The way ppl talk about colorism irritates me so bad bc it’s just riddled with ignorance with like -0 self awareness, I just saw a clip the other day about the colorism in Martin and one of the ppl trying to argue against the colorism just sounded dumb asl, they literally said ā€œwell Martin didn’t say anything about Pam’s skin color he just called her manly and nappy headā€ LMAOOOO, like do you not hear what’s coming out of your mouth, and then they brought up fresh prince to make another goofy ass point and I’m like bruh, maybe shut up and think for like 5 seconds why almost every black sitcom in the 90s had a lightskin female character as the main focus or replaced a dark skin actress with a lighter actress, colorism is so ingrained in our community that niggas are blinded by nostalgia so they don’t have acknowledge very blatant examples of it, and then they brought up Phylicia Rashad trying to say she dark skin and I was like, okay this is where I log out lmaooooo

ceeitrus

Okay, girl. Just because you don’t like a genre of music doesn’t mean it’s bad. There are plenty of people that actually do enjoy the music. Yeah there’s a lot of weirdos, but it’s never good to generalize and talk down on it like that just because it’s not your thing šŸ™„

NJK_Jinkies

My mouth was agape at that tiktok! I'm not even going to comment further I'm gonna let the girls handle that. I'll be honest I'm biracial, my dad is black my mom is white and my dad's concept of blackness and race has always disturbed me and I'm still unpacking it all in my adulthood. My dad never says anything good or positive about black people, especially black women. I don't know if he thinks I'm supposed to be flattered or feel better about myself because I don't have 2 black parents but I don't. It makes me feel worse because I know i was created mostly because my dad hates himself and that makes me incredibly sad. I don't like speaking too much on black issues because I KNOW my experience isn't the same. I don't know why some black people want to force biracial people to completely identify with blackness when we have our own experience that is simply adjacent to blackness but not the same if that makes any sense. In my adult life I've learned so much from black women but I don't really listen to black men in general because I don't think they approach racial discourse in good faith. Like you said they want to remove themselves from blackness ultimately fetishizing interracial relationships and biracial people. You hit the nail on the head about white people and their interest in East Asia. They don't see Asian women as having any autonomy and kpop fans often are so horrible to their favs and they don't ever confront it. I don't know how many east Asian people feed into that and place themselves in that box. It's so restrictive and they don't actually respect them. The music would be better if kpop fans didn't feel like they have so much control over them. I can't complain to much because kpop artists high key play into it.

Put water and leavin in conditioner in a spraybottle and spray it onto your hair, then take a wet towel (warm/hot) and put in onto your head for a bit. Loosens braids a bit and makes it comfortable

Christina Oghagbon

That tiktok... if you talk about people who look like you that way, it only makes me think YOU are insecure. Dark skin women deserve the world, PERIOD

Alexandria U

I remember that tweet with thousands of likes talking bout "I thought Annie was Smokes mom" and WHY did you think THAT??? 🤨🤨 like everyone talking about how stunning Wunmi is in response and yes she is gorgeous but no really.. why did your minds go there? Unpack that

Diana

I had to fast forward at some point… like I’m killing myself listening to her

Dejavu

Yup!! Idk what’s in the air now but on Twitter a few years ago it was agreed by most people that Martin was colorist. I feel bad their dragging Ari now for no reason

Halimaa

I def remember your pre James Charles colorism videos😭 I wholeheartedly agree that the corrective representation side of the internet is odd because other than male attention (who gaf)…. what is gained from being viewed as docile and feminine, the Asian women example you gave says it all!

Halimaa

Her example was Lupita!!! Lupita!! That was insane! Really great commentary about how the defense turns into well ā€œso and soā€ is really pretty when it comes to colorism. I have to watch how I react also.

Seti Tesefay

Yess , I've been thinking about how much it annoys me that when were talking about desirability politics , people only talk about it through rigid understandings of who wants to sleep with you or sees you as most desirable but desirability politics is a lot more nefarious than that. Its about access to resources , what spaces that are closed off to you, and even right down to how darker skinned people are treated more harshly in the penal system compared to lighter skinned people . Studies have even shown darker skin girls being regarded as most disruptive by their school room teachers than their lighter skinned or white counterparts. SMH , can we have serious conversations instead of making the mundane radical? ( love this quote btw lol)

honeybee

& 2NDtake…. (P.S. i will never watch love island either. I only watched the episode with megan & then turned off the TV) but i feel like women who say olandria is ugly are operating from either what they think a man would be attracted to, or through eurocentric features. i don’t think even think they believe that olandria is ugly. they just trying to keep colorism alive & well

Tyy Li

and for some reason, we’re dehumanizing people who are affected by colorist cause am i wrong, but wasn’t it like a couple of years back where people were all aboard on how pam was treated but now we’re regressing and saying she wasn’t? but ari lennox brought it back up and people are down her throat!

Tyy Li

The second hand embarrassment from the first video. Imagine this is your online legacy. Just unintelligible babble. Humiliating.

Whitney Jarrett

Side note, the way you’ve been quoting Kamala recently ie, coconut tree, has been killing me 😭

Lavender1495

This topic links back to a video you made a few years ago saying that we also need black mediocrity as representation and only showing black excellence is also harmful for the cause. And you can see it shows, cause look at how they treat the girls that are anything less than perfect, but give the mediocre white and light skin girls the world.

necoi douglas

The way light skin people will say something crazy on TikTok but cause she light skin and attractive, people will attack the ugly usually dark skin girls "agreeing" with them way more than the original person who said it

Krystal Latte

I was at Benihana one time, and I was next to an older, probably retired couple: yt husband, and Asian wife. I felt bad for her. She tried to apologize for her husband’s problematic behavior and ā€œjokesā€. She always gave a look that said, ā€œ*Sigh* yeah, I knowā€.

C

One thing about braids: if I ever got them again and they were micro, that is a tell tale sign that I am wearing a wig. Brandy did her big one with her braided wigs back in the 90s.

C

talk to em queen

marcelina
