Why do we get weird when Influencers are Rich...Vlogmas Day 8

Why do we get weird when Influencers are Rich...Vlogmas Day 8

Comments

I love this! This opinion is chefs kiss

Mharris Mharrs

That is how Kenya's peace of mind has been changed

Mharris Mharrs

Had a guy reply to my comment and I hope he sees your. Yes some people are just mad bitches and jealous and hating but it's deeper than that! When you realize/ know that what you pay attention to is valuable you don't force yourself to keep supporting a regular person you made rich when their empathy and self awareness disappears. You don't owe people that and eventually the content creator disappears or changes.

Mharris Mharrs

Tmlss you can't do nothing sell bullshit and have the world and people not feel that you owe them something.

Mharris Mharrs

You have a comment underneath mine that literally sums up what I'm saying. I don't feel entitled to their life. They sign a contract, take brand deals, structure their life in a way where others see the things that occur in it-> they become known by others and in turn exposed to a wider 'audience' (which they intentionally attracted)-> they build a sizeable number of people that pay them (monetarily and physically) attention -> they are now able to leverage that audience in exchange for more money through different avenues, life/ their generated income is going good . . . And this is where you reach a pitchfork. You work to get things and you want to show it off. Since these people posting for money (attention economy employees) already are used to the attention of many people they show new things they bought to the same group of people they make money from. This starts to expose people to more parts of your life then they originally knew about. People are going to have opinions on the stuff you chose to open up and show them. Negative and positive opinions are out there but it reallyall depends on the crowd whose reaction you're looking at/ for. Yeah you're going to get people who get irrationally mad at people with nice things but they exist and if you know that it bothers you, you can still know they exist and not go into that space you don't like. Feeling that they shouldn't be entitled is a normative view or belief system held by a group of people (like the people upset that the insurance CEO was killed because murder is still bad) Most of the influencers you can think of off the top of YOUR head (regardless of the space their in, their race, their audience, or the platform they use) are not well adjusted, professional, media trained, individuals that deserved to be talked about in good faith. Now I'm going back to the -> cycle. Instead of posting really nice things they own often online they talk about it with their friends, family, and associates. They show off their really cute shit at parties, weddings, events, venues. Instead of seeking the validation of the same people you make money off of with the products you sell and the service you provide (content creation) you take your spoils to the real world instead of extracting another resource from the same audience (attention+adoration). Think about it, we as a audience know Kenya isn't hurting for money struggling. she's discussing potentially getting jewelry, expensive ass jewelry, She hasn't had to work a traditionally 5 day a week job and gets to sleep in/ get enough sleep to feel good for the day and is a homeowner. The people here watching this patreon and her YouTube are all distinctly aware that the money/ attention we pay to pay to kenya helps to fund her lifestyle enough to where she doesn't have to do a shit ton of sponsorships for bullshit. She didn't come on the internet pretending to be strangers friends and overly exposing her life and treating the internet like a diary that also is supposed to pay like a job and then when I have enough money to not have to do that. "Hey girlies, You can't know what I'm currently going through but you can see this reel of me talking about how I'm making all this money and I have to move like a company now! Click my link to support!" How do you get to build a online reputation/lore/ persona built in shit you've done, how you treat people, how you live and then when you get some money mindset switch into setting yourself as a brand. No! you're still a person if you're income stream cut off tomorrow you would be back to overly exposing your life to build a fan base to make money off of to sell shit to. I and the other audience members don't expect anyone to do this shit for free but no one wants to be seen as dumb or dehumanized by someone they helped get to where they are. That's why I brought up RHOP. Real housewives of Potomac. None of those women from past seasons would still be on tv if they continued to treat the audience like they were dumb and show something fake presented as their life or deliberately shut the audience out of seeing their 'persona' life. That's why Rob Dixon ass was fired and Karen's in the hotseat now. There are always going to be people who want to say mean hateful things to influencers but if I see a person's audience, not a couple of people, but an entire audience turn on someone, I'm more likely to have grace for the audience who helped make that person who they are today and promised entertainment to them rich. This social media money stops if you stop posting, recording episodes, collabing, etc. It's fast food, fast food, and if they want to keep making the kind of money they make they need to go to therapy and buy a goddamn composition notebook not hit record on their phone and start to tell their audience that they are better than them or making so much money that their apart of a different class entirely. When social media is your job you have to develop awareness before your worth in the attention economy dissipates. Once people hate you enough they start to ignore you and that dwindling attention makes you replaceable.

Mharris Mharrs

I think it stems from the fact that people don’t want to hear how rich they’re making influencers. They don’t want to outwardly believe that because they watch and engage in these peoples’ content, that it makes them a lucrative amount of money because they wish they had that same amount of money.

Dynasty Andrews

We aren’t entitled to people lives just because we support the content that pays their bills. It’s still their life to do with as they please

Dynasty Andrews

Please talk about Kelly stamps. I haven’t heard any other black woman talk about her

Alivia

They get weird about it for the same reason you got weird about Rob and Ashely on rhop. You don't get to make a sh!ť ton of money, show up whenever you want to, and not show your life if that's what gave you the opportunity to even have that money. People are struggling. None of us want to hear another influencer talk about how breezy getting money is in this hard azz world. People don't even be asking them in the comments how much are you making

Mharris Mharrs

yes! please do a kelly stamps video

emiliaem

I believe anything against Jay Z

Jelissa

Ooops, I guess that $10,000 got someone to snitch 🥲

Jelissa

nurse listener here, thank you for speaking up for me! I am a little mean chile

Christine Unaegbu

EDIT: Omg never you were talking about a Kenya Kelly stamps video MBBB HAHAH I think the video Kenya was talking about was from a while ago. Kelly isn’t super duper active like she once was

Manna Steel

I wasn’t ready for the 16:40 section 😭 girl you made me think I was in trouble BYEE

Manna Steel

Off topic but the background is CUTE MAMAAAA

Manna Steel

They miserable themselves and want others to be miserable, that's why they also get mad about happy couples being too happy

KRYSTAL

You are so good at explaining different perspectives. I love you 💗

brittany hawkins

I remember when Kelly Stamps made that video and I knew they weren’t gonna like that. Knowing your audience is so vital in the social media game, and I don’t know why she thought her audience was going to react positively to that. People like their faves when they feel like they can control their success. The minute they see them doing a little too well, they are no longer relatable and then they want to see their downfall. It’s the strangest thing

Diandra Says

Oh a Kelly Stamps vid I’ll be tuned in (I use to watch her vids like crazy for love for the girl) Also ppl who get mad bout influencers making money are losers cause they wish they could do that but they know in reality they can’t. I think a lot of ppl just didn’t see the vision for content creating n mad they didn’t jump in but like also you still can but you just don’t wanna do the work

Evette

(I'm not blocking bags tho, love people making hella money)

Xiyanna

Bc a lot of influencers are tacky... (same goes for actors) it's sad entertainers make more than regular people, then people are envious, then influencers are often Very showy about their lifestyles

Xiyanna

I find it very hard to have sympathy for the dead CEO outside of like basic murder is bad sympathy. Also these vlogmas topics are hot! who needs twitter !

Efrain

Crazy to hear that nurses are making real money here nurses are paid dirt cheap

Danielle A

Bones of a Carrot

risa kim

Y'all so fake

nubiacoco

Literally!!! As soon as kpop artists start going off to the military and come back, get married, kids, start living their lives outside of music-pumping machine, these stans panic.

Dani

Kenya we just got news today that jayz was filed a lawsuit of sa a 13 year old girl, I’m not sure if it’s true but can you talk about it?😳

Sarah Uwagbai

in what world would you NOT pardon your son over some dumb shit if you’re the president…. and that was on the heels of trump being pardoned for literally everything that he ACTUALLY did wrong like go to hell ??

tay w

I love your nails!!!! Just needed to say that lol

Casey Brown

The way everyone was on emma’s ass when she said she didn’t know what’s in her bank account … hunny 😭

𝐑꩜𝐄

Sheeeeeee’s an interesting lady, that’s for sure. I follow more for nostalgia and to support a Black woman at this point, and she definitely has some… *specific* views that’s for sure (and a bad case of recovery from Oreo syndrome 🫣)

JT

It's kinda similar to the way kpop stans infantile their idols and don't want them to date even if they're pushing 30. Like people just one what they envision you as and don't want that illusion to burst

pasteleclectic

Please discusss Golden Globes nominations to kick off the Oscar race! (We knwo they don't really matter but still!)

Josep22

Funky has BEEN manifesting his “rich white woman” lifestyle and STAYS calling us broke cubicle girls 😂😩, so why are people surprised about the numbers he threw out? He’s also in his support-black-businesses era, and putting a spotlight on his audience, so what is this hate? People are so weird. I hope the people I wake up every day to listen to, who provide me with laughs, new perspectives and talking points; and who are brave enough to put their asses in front of a camera for the masses make MONEY!!!! Especially if you’re BLACK!! Baby, collect ALL the coins!

carly gill

It’s simple bright green envy I fear. They think “I could’ve done that” but they didn’t so they are mad at the creator

daydreamrose

Speaking for myself I think watching youtube when I was a child and it was still relatively new, I had no clue people were making money. Theres so many youtubers I was supporting with my attention before I even had real money. Now that I'm an adult and it's more clear to me what's going on, I still follow some people (what can I say, I love Kenya) but I've tried to spend more time with people in my actual life cause it is sooo easy to get sucked into parasocial relationships online and neglect your real life.

Chris

It's very strange, why shouldn't entertainers make money? In my opinion these platforms are entertainment. Also, some of them are actually educational, so that should be well paid too

Rainy Feathers

kelly stamps is my cold case never solved. i was bossed in the pandemic, but i never tuned back in before she fell off…i’ve always been aware that she’s still around but like? ppl on reddit were saying she’s randomly religious and became a right winger, and i don’t care enough about her anymore to watch videos but i do care about mess…

risa kim

kenya pls make a podcast on jayz’s statement!! that nigga is insane, and i gotta stand by victims bc i’ll stand with a liar before i stand with a rapist. anyways he’s an idiot purely from a pr standpoint…

risa kim

Free Hunter! i was so sad you weren’t on twitter when the news dropped. when i first heard someone said this would tarnish his legacy and im like ??? didnt that senile debate performance, not dropping out earlier, and the genocide already damage his legacy? like be serious

Liz Huerta

oh nevermind i saw. oh lawd.

Imani Branch

wait what happen????

Imani Branch

They don’t get that they’re interacting with a product. Social media is just product. Even if it’s an actual person, there’s still a persona. Like, no shade, I don’t know shit about Kenya beyond these videos. I don’t know this woman and I accept that, but lots of content consumers don’t. Just rambling, but yeah.

Chris

Kenya please, I’m pretty sure you’re making more than Funky Dineva misogynistic *ss.

Norrie

Omg Kenya you a Funky watcher?? Problematic fav indeed 😭

Mariah L.

Totally agree. They live vicariously through them so as soon as that illusion is shattered and they are reminded the person they are watching is indeed rich , not their friend, and essentially, doing a job they cant cope.

T_Maureen_I

My favorite thing is when these influencers start getting rich and successful and people start complaining about how they’re no longer relatable and how it feels super out of touch, etc. You guys are the people that made their content successful and now you’re mad that they’re reaping the benefits of that said success. And then they say things like “we need to find smaller creators to amplify instead of giving our attention to these big influencers who are already so rich” but those big influencers also started off as small creators at one point as well no? so wouldn’t that just be the same cycle all over again then. I’m sorry to say it, and maybe its mean spirited but it’s just a bunch of broke losers who are extremely jealous that they are not in the same position. They feel like they “do not deserve the success they have” because all they do is talk in front of the camera. They do not deserve the same because they don’t have a talent. They’re not singers , athletes, or actors so therefore they dont deserve it. However ppl underestimate the work. If it was that easy, there would be so many people that would get up off their behinds and do the work. How many of you have the gall to get in from the camera and shoot content almost EVERY single day and upload EVERY single day because thats what ur going to have to do in the beginning. To learn how to edit, which is extremely tedious btw, especially when you’re not in the financial means to pay editors in the beginning. To staying consistent and try to build an audience . To maintain regular engagement, and find a niche that separates you from the 1000s of other influencers that are also online. Why should we watch you particularly? Can u build your brand? Can u find management that will amplify you? Most people dont want to do the work at all . I know my lazy ass doesn’t. If you’re on Reddit, the NYC/LA influencer snark pages are some of the most miserable crevices of the Internet you will ever reach upon. Complaining and “snarking” on influencers yet continuously keeping up with them and give them that same engagement. It’s ridiculous. Totally agree with you about how you are just one good idea from your entire life changing and never having yo work again. And it’s not just in the influencer space it’s in the “real” world as well. Why people pretend that they’re so above it and act like they wouldn’t take advantage of these situations and opportunities given to these influencers is so beyond me.

T_Maureen_I

Real down bad lord. 😭😭😭

T_Maureen_I

Its hating. Period. Im a hater so I know lol I tried to do content but I am never consistent because it IS work. I don’t wanna be obligated to an audience, I like stability., and if I wanna be famous ima go the hollywood route. People think it’s easy work for too much money and a lot of influencers are brats so their personalities don’t help.

India Barrow

I think the parasocial-ness of it all is what makes people get weird about the money. They see this person as their “friend” but why is their friend rich and they’re not? And also people don’t want to admit the “friend” on the screen is actually at work doing a job.

Sabrina C

Same!

Faith Mbadugha

Kenya. What would be some of your tips for someone that wants to start a YouTube channel in 2025? You’re an inspiration

KM

Hive down bad rn. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Chris

I know this isn’t the point of the video but “you are just one good idea away from never having to work another job” is a WORD

JT

free the guys season is sending me ajkcvbad but period free Jussie !

Trenton McCray

You forgot about the young thug case://

Judith Ben

Omg Kenya I am SEATED for the Kelly Stamps video in advance

JT

I haven’t finished the video yet lol so you might say this but I think it’s because people feel like there’s “REAL” famous people and then there’s influencers. And “real” famous people deserve to be rich because they’re… actors? Singers? A celebrity I guess, in like the classic sense. But with influencers they feel like they are supposed to be like them, the average person. Like anyone being able to put up a camera and be a somebody makes them feel weird because you didn’t have to go through the hurdles that “real” famous people do. Idk, it’s like they don’t like the lines being blurred.

Chantiel McKeiver

still watching but yes to the kelly stamps video
