The comic is worth a read and significantly different than the movie. No virus in the comic, the fascist government seizes control after a devastating war. V was experimented on in a concentration camp, likely for being homosexual, which is hinted at through his exaggerated theatrics and notes passed to Evey from a detained lesbian, which happens in the movie, but the purpose is kinda muddy compared to the comic. He gets super strength from the experiments, but is burned pretty horrifically on the face.

I wish to thank this movie (and Alan Moore) for inspiring this classic exchange:

Nothing unique has happened in the last 4 years. US politics hasn't changed in decades, only the topics each of the two sides abuses to pander to your emotions and the technological means they use to do it. People are actually convinced that either side has their best interests to the point they defend and fight for these two clearly shitty parties.

You said the reality isn’t that the people are more powerful than the government. But the reason why that’s the case is because it has been a long time since the common people were united against their government. To the point where they tear it down.
Look at all that’s happened in the last four years in particular. Most of the people are okay with accepting a quiet tyranny. It’s also that the government does a lot of “bread and circus”.
Either way good reaction. I hope you watch Count of Monte Cristo. They have a 2002 version that is really good.
