Very difficult to pick only one. I'm going to think outside the box. Seeing that Misery rightfully won your other poll, I'm going to suggest a follow up movie, Dolores Claiborne. More Kathy Bates. A very young John C. Reilly. Christopher Plummer, and Jennifer Jason Leigh who was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, one of the most iconic 80's movies. So yeah. Dolores Claiborne isn't a terrifying movie, but it is written by Stephen King, so I say it counts.

Cory Silver

This is a contender for sure. Don't even watch any trailers, just trust that it's a good movie and go in blind.

Cory Silver

I don't think Mary has seen the original Evil Dead 1 or 2 so you might want to start with those before you jump into Army of Darkness.

Jay Wooderson

The Evil Dead (1981)

Imma say X (2022) its part of a trilogy for ref, it goes; X, Pearl, then Maxxxine, which came out this year, one of the better modern horror trilogies in a while.

I'm sorry. I just saw this, Mary. I posted four Stephan King movies; you can't go wrong with any of them.

That, my friend, is a GREAT movie! That's the one I was going to suggest. Maybe more a horror thriller than a "traditional" horror movie, but it's even scarier because it is believable. Terrible things like that can (and sometimes do) happen in real life. And THAT is horrific. @Mary, that's one you must dare to watch!

Elie Gendron

Some great Stephan King movies are Misery (1990), Silver Bullet (1985), Carrie (1976), and The Dead Zone (1983).

Someone already suggested "Poltergeist", a first rate classic and one of the best horror movies ever made, so I'll go with "Sinister", and the sequel.

10/10 suggestion

Mike Tinsley

The Raven (1963) Vincent Price & Boris Karloff, a classic horror/comedy, sort of, film.

I highly recommend Abigail (2024). Great dark comedy horror film with a great cast. Also, not saying much about it because it is best going in as blind as possible to this film. :)

Sorry about that. The Hitcher.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, this one is independent of the other Halloween movies so there are no prerequisites to watching it.
