The main cast is gold, and the Latin actors are all great too, they aren't all Mexican, like Tony Plana, who plays Jefe, he's Cuban but very funny in this and as Feo (Ugly) in Born In East LA, Alfonso Arau ( I just looked him up, he is Mexican but I didn't know he was also a director, and pretty good) plays El Guapo, the Handsome, and was fantastic in Romancing The Stone, which I recommend, it's a great Action Adventure Rom Com. And the actor who plays Carmen is also "Miss Argentina" in Beetlejuice. Gringo basically means white guy but supposedly it comes from a mispronunciation of Griego, which means Greek. When California, Texas etc became part of the US, the Mexicans who were already living there would say about all the Anglos flooding into the territory and who didn't speak Spanish, that they might as well be speaking Greek.
