I saw this great film at the cinema when it first came out and was blown away by it. I think that one of the reasons Christof created the storm was not only to stop Truman, but it test him. Afterall, how can you be a hero if you're not tested in someway. Basically it made good television. If you look at this film and compare it to reality shows like Big Brother, which was first broadcast a year later, and how intrusive, manipulative that show has become of the years. Always trying to push the boundaries of what's acceptable on tv, you'll see it wasn't far off.
