I believe in "Smallville" more of what Jorel had done ahead of Clark's trip
was explained in Smallville.

Great Reaction Mary Cherry!
To me the original Superman will always be George Reeves (1952-1958) And Christopher Reeve was the next best Superman! Fun Fact: When Clark Kent is racing the train the lady in the train is the original Lois Lane (Noel Neill). And Perry White from the old Superman use to always say Great Scott Ceasars Ghost who I think Christoher Lloyd from Back To The Future always said Great Scott! Looking forward to Superman 2!

Superman should be taken within the context of the year it was released when the zeitgeist was escapism with lots of light-hearted comedy. Just the year before started the trend with the milestone Star Wars often referred to as throwback 'popcorn movie.' '78 also produced "Animal House", "Grease". "Heaven Can Wait." Reeves performance was pitch-perfect for a comic book icon you can't take too seriously. Lots of tongue-in-cheek humor as he played both the likable nerd Clark Kent and the stalwart man of steel. America was recovering from the gas shortage and lines around the block and needed popcorn movies at a time when "truth, justice and the American way" was actually a refreshing positive sentiment. So sad his final days in a wheel chair.

Girls now considered him a loser. Clark is currently a farm boy, high school educated, freelancing photographer with a salary of 100k a year. Even in the movie no one except Lois pays attention to him. HARD TRUTH

Cavill is the greatest superman of all time what cavill has that reeve didn't is masculinity reeves superman didn't have a edge to him like cavill did IMO henry cavill was able to play both sides of superman perfectly the softer side and the harder side when it's time to get busy

I really liked Dean Cain's portrayal, it was different than Reeve which I appreciated. He and Teri Hatcher had great chemistry! Also Teri Hatcher and Lane Smith are my favorite versions of Lois and Perry White!

Reeve was and is the gold standard of Superman, though. Dean Cain was too good-looking IMHO at the time to play Clark/Superman. Henry Cavill lacked charisma IMHO. Christopher Reeve was the perfect combination of virtuous and confident.

Christopher Reeve's performance of Clark as clumsy and awkward is very deliberate, it's to solidify his disguise to the world and the people he's around.

Great reaction! While this first Superman film is a classic and was a game changer, I actually prefer Superman 2!
