The people at the temple are just another group of the others. That’s why Cindy is with them. Remember she was taken by the others and we saw her and the kids with the others. Some of the others were living in the barracks for a time, and this group was staying at the temple living a more traditional lifestyle. They lit the fireworks as a signal to the others that are outside the temple to let them know that Jacob is dead. We see Richard at the end saw the signal and got really scared before Fake Locke knocked him out.

2023-11-24 06:41:06 +0000 UTCIm far behind on S3E5 and I dont see a comment stating why Eko was killed off.. The writers wanted him in the entire show but the Actor playing Eko wanted written off.. there are a couple reasons that floated around 1. He didnt like filming in Hawaii and became difficult to work with and 2. A family member got sick and he wanted off to go take care of them but ya either way it was abrupt because he wasnt meant to happen.
