2020-05-28 09:00:58 +0000 UTCI only mentioned Mike's oversight because "clouded judgement" is a defining characteristic of Walt -- we expect it from him. Mike, on the other hand, was known for being a cerebral strategist. He called out Walt from very early on, saying Walt was a ticking time bomb and that he had no intention of being around when Walt "went off" ... but then Mike did stick around too long and got caught when the grenade did its thing. If the circumstances were any different, we'd all have expected to see him have a plan for dealing with Walt. Mike's own hitman couldn't get him, but he was taken down by someone who's never professionally handled a weapon.

Mike didn't respect Walt because of how arrogant and impulsive he was. Gus was every bit as ruthless and horrible as Walt is but he was never arrogant. Plus, Mike's real downfall was trusting that other lawyer like Saul said.

His downfall was that he never respected Walt, and let his anger cloud his judgment the way Gus did. Such an epic character, though, and he deserved to go out on top. RIP big guy :'(
