I don’t know … I went to high school in the mid ‘80s in Western Washington State - not Seattle, but close enough. I think the acting here is pretty realistic. A lot of teenagers at that time and place were actually pretty “theatrical” with their emotions and ways of talking. Yes, the movie is idealized. But it also felt real to people who grew up in a similar world.

2021-05-17 13:06:39 +0000 UTCThanks to the picture in picture I finally got to see the entire movie, I'd always miss the beginning before, great movie! I'm more familiar with John Cusack from his earlier "Savage" Steve Holland comedies, One Crazy Summer and Better Off Dead, they're pretty wacky but fun. He's also great in High Fidelity, Gross Pointe Blank, and The Ice Harvest. Btw, the woman who played Lloyd's sister in this is John Cusack's actual sister Joan Cusack, she's been in a fair amount of movies too, and they have an older sister, Ann, who also acts but is less well known.

Another movie I think you'll like from the same actor (John Cusak) is Grosse Pointe Bank. It's got romance and a lot of comedy... maybe a little dark comedy thrown in. lol But you should give it a watch.
