The current Leopold narrative, based primarily on the 1998 book King Leopold’s Ghost, certainly seems to be yet another example of the leftist narrative creation technique that Marrek has discussed many times on GOB. The game goes like this: 1. Select a location on the map, and figure out when contact with Europeans happened. For maximum effect, pick a location/period people don’t know much about. (Tasmania, Ghana, Congo, etc.) 2. Find some historical evidence that the Europeans were unkind/unfair, in 21st century terms, to the natives. 3. Be sure to leave out—or at least minimize—how the natives treated each other during that period. If the natives did cannibalism and slavery, omit these facts. Call people racist if they, based on some other source, make the case that the region wasn’t a Wakandan utopia pre-contact. 4. Exaggerate—as wildly as you can get away with—the degree of predation and rapaciousness of the white man. If the whites brought disease, make the case that they did so knowingly. Pump up the numbers. How many nomadic hunter-gatherers were there in that region the size of Ohio? 10 million seems plausible. 5. Examine the present condition of the region. Are they poor? Is their society violent? Very good. Draw your causal arrow straight back to contact with the Very Bad Whites. 6. Finally, the most important step: make the claim that the old colonialism, filthy and sinful, requires a new colonialism, caring and true. Make the case that the old wrongs can be righted, but only by spending infinity money on NGOs that send Very Good Whites deep into the jungle, armed with the latest, most cutting-edge cultural anthropology and Pfizer products.
