I ran a business serving Amish people for ten years and asked them about the convert question. The ones I worked with knew of a few cases and most of them failed to stick with it. You have to be joining for pure and sincere religious reasons to start with, and then like you boys said you have to learn the language and become proficient with a lot of technology that you'll have no prior experience with (horse and buggy, wood stove cooking, etc). But the biggest difficulty, they admitted, was the isolation. Amish are extremely family oriented and depend on big families for material and social support. You can become Amish but you can't become a Yoder, so you and your kids are going to be miserable unless you have real pioneer spirit and religious consolation.

What kind of leaders invite strangers to keep wages low, houses high, and use them as leverage against their own people? Could you run a household like this or would the household just dissolve into the void? The border states should start doing what needs to be done. There is no law on the border. This means do what should be done.
