The reasoning behind the powerful singleshot versus the henry repeater (i read, who knows if true) was the ability to kill a horse. Clearly a bad assumption, the results would indicate.

2021-04-20 14:48:16 +0000 UTCMaarek started the episode with a joke about history as an expression of the class war etc and bog finished it with an observation about the US citizen as a unit of consumption; the straight line through both of those in my mind is China's problem of the US as a reservoir of demand that somehow needs to be resolved. As you say, the professional soldiers have risen to the level of medieval knight compared to most people with a glock, but even they are going to be useless against the Amazon drone swarm. It's all about the maintenance of relative power via political economy rather than the popular understanding of Rousseau or Locke while armed. That being said, is there a level of technology or social arrangement (AI, surveillance, and force automation for example) that results in a long term "end of history"? Like is that top level control of superior force the end of patronage.
