I'm a non-Anglo blooded white who lived in South America for years and got into some very interesting discussions during that time about such things. Derek Walcott touched on it in a few of his works with a Caribbean perspective. Adding to the jobs discussion of the last fifteen minutes - my favorite job I ever had was a summer job where I worked on an assembly line putting fasteners into boxes for shipment. Same hours every day (strict no OT, 4PM came and it was GTFO), same pay every week, got to listen to the radio throughout the shift and developed a lot of camaraderie with my immediate coworkers during that time. It was half a lifetime ago for me but I still look back on it fondly. We need more jobs like that.
