RUBBISH. YouTube is pushing their own agenda that has nothing to do with helping that creator. Their loss .

I have about three whole shelves of BFI DVDs and Blu-rays, mainly short documentaries (British Transport Films, Central Office Of Information etc) so I can vouch they don't archive just anything. Latest from them, I received yesterday, is of Vincent Price's cookery series!

2024-12-26 21:22:59 +0000 UTCSadly when Airaplaying a video you *cannot* choose the audio language. Now lots of creators are uploading with the “auto AI audio translation” enabled (apparently it defaults to on with every upload 😬), the AirPlay audio ends up defaulting to (and stuck on) the first random AI translation. Having the audio stuck in a non original language / voice, where I don’t even speak the language, does not improve the viewing experience 😞 And leads to a bunch more 30-75 second abandoned viewings, attempting to get it work (the only way is to find a playing situation not involving AirPlay AFAICT). Hopefully eventually YouTube will relent and put the original audio as the first audio track (thus played by AirPlay). And/or Apple will relent and allow choosing the audio track AirPlay uses. But I’m not holding my breath, Ewen

I haven't met a lot of famous people but I met a couple of you tubers on a conference and it turned out we were on the same hotel. I met them just by the entrance. Of course it's faces you recognise but they have no clue who you are. It's weird. About the bikes I do feel the same. You get used to it though. I thought the AI voice was a a good laugh. Not my favourite but under the circumstances, a good laugh and an interesting video too. Nice to know some Techmoan will be available after YouTube tanks! I had some home automation done from Busch jaeger, it does work. Gotta check the lights, wife would like something nice for the tree. BTW best teaser in a while, with the upcoming videos

Maybe more people should focus on that rather than on the way you handle the privacy of your Mrs (which I think is very professional and respectful). The BFI, in wanting to store some of your work, acknowledges the quality and significance of your content. It's something to be proud of! Well done!

Compared with the many fake AI generated youtube topics and comments that only serve to mislead or annoy the public. I was glad to hear your boring voice a few days later anyway ;-)

Disappointed YouTube keep pushing creators to make them, and not providing a way to stop them appearing. Various plug ins claim to remove them, but the only seem to work for a short while until YouTube change their layout slightly. Keep up the long form videos!

2024-12-26 13:45:42 +0000 UTCI'm only halfway through this, but I wanted to make two points while it's fresh in my thoughts: 1) I, too, noticed that you were there as a couple, yet you had cleverly removed her appearance, and I was a bit naturally curious as to your better half, (what's her name, what's she like, etc.). But I quickly got that your wife didn't want to be included and I got over it. But, thanks to Internet 2.0, everyone can say whatever-the-hell they want with absolutely no filter, no "count to ten before you speak in haste." That's the current reality, it's what given us in the states the "it's my right to be angry!" mentality. There's nothing that one can do, but take these comments as they are and not react to them, or let them get to you, other than it's just sad. ...and 2) This year I did the previously unthinkable and cancelled my Amazon Prime account. I did it because I realized I had become addicted to the whole "order whatever you want, whenever you want" illness. I was ordering both meaningless trivia, like a cable that wouid marginally work better for me, all the way to a new MacBook, etc. Plus, in the states we're starting to see the signs of brick-and-mortor stores failing because they can't compete with the likes of Amazon. I took a Walmart+ membership and order from them, and Ebay. I find it actually refreshing to not have that monkey on my back. I know this is way too long, but I wanted to say it... and it's the internet and it's my right to be angry. (uh-oh). The happiest of holidays to you and the mysterious missus, and the cat. I'll finish your video when I return from church.

You realise that in 2075 that film will be used as an example of a typical Youtuber fixing a typical 1980s record player :-) A video recommendation that I got randomly but enjoyed was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfZxOuc9Qwk&t=6s .Lots of mentions of "peak Sony" in it. What is amusing is the number of people commenting "we had one of those when I was a kid" despite them only selling about seven in the whole of the USA. Have a good 2025 everyone.

Anyway, I hope you have a peaceful end to the festive season and can recharge your batteries for the year ahead. As I write this, I’m travelling on an ICE to Hamburg (punctual for once - truly a Christmas miracle!) en route to a conference that’ll let me escape reality for a few days. Obviously that people didn't watch that video from the beginning (which is completly ok) and didn't bother to answer that question by watching that beginning afterwards (which should be illegal in my oppinion but unfortunetly it is not). I'm not sure if a hint in form of a ticker would have done that job.

BTW I get that point of "Showing the miss" while being on vacation because it's about the impression of living and traveling alone or with your partner (if any). In some kind your videos are always giving the impression that you are living all by yourself, which is not true obviously. To fix that issue imagine to publish a picture of you and your wife or letting her appear in the videos but her face is always blurred. With this gesture you would show to your audience: "Yes, there's someone else in my life but I'm not gonna reveal that person because of privacy reasons!"
