Sony Wena - FutureTech Review

https://youtu.be/-etVSTF0-us

This week I found myself in the unlikely position of being ahead of the curve. In January after months of thinking about it, I finally ordered the rather pricey Sony Wena Smart Watch Strap just for the purposes of learning about and doing a demonstration of something that was only available in Japan.

Postage took longer than expected, but eventually it arrived and I put it to one side while I continued to work on other videos. However on Wednesday Sony announced that the Wena (which apparently stands for WEar Electronics NAturally) was being released in the UK on the 4th March.

I therefore found myself in the unusual position of having an item in my hands that was only due to come out here next month.

So naturally I dropped everything and spent every hour since then getting this review finished. I hope this effort proves to be worthwhile as I'm now officially knackered.

UPDATE: I really didn’t want to return to this, however after playing about with the phone app, I accidentally discovered the unintuitave way you add notifications for the apps you care about. So I downed a whiskey and returned to the editor to correct my mistakes. The version above is now the accurate updated one.

Sony Wena - FutureTech Review

Comments

This is going to be an interesting one to ‘watch’. I’d already bookmarked next Monday in the calendar to see if the official UK release bumps up the viewing figures on my review. It could really do with a bump - it’s been disappointingly flat for a worldwide English language review exclusive of a Sony product. The video is still over £100 short of earning back in advert revenue what the strap cost me to buy.

Coming to the UK, apparently https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/technology-47546546/tech-filled-strap-makes-old-watches-smart

Phil Collins

That’s one I’ll need to do a bit of reading up on.

Hi Mat, thinking of your military telecom video which I very much enjoyed, how about trying out the British Fullerphone of WWI? http://www.wftw.nl/ful.html They seem to only be about $50 on American eBay, and you could have an acting scene where you try to tap your lines.
