UPDATE: The video above has been replaced with an extended one that now includes a quick demo of the record on a Linear Turntable - (as suggested by Roland Bogush in the comments below). This kind of feedback is very useful because it helps me improve the video before it goes fully live.

Interesting stuff. I never really thought about this, but then I started realizing that a lot of records I've played, especially random J-Pop stuff, often has a soft calm track at the end of each side... I figure this is part of why DJ 12" even at 45 RPM end well before the center of the disk, in my experience.

2018-03-01 04:42:13 +0000 UTCI read somewhere that club DJs just flat-out won’t accept a vinyl 12” beyond a certain length due to the fact that it would have been mastered at a lower volume and therefore they’d have to adjust all their EQ levels just to play it.

2018-02-21 20:08:28 +0000 UTCVery interesting. It makes sense when you have a long continuous track that can't be broken up over multiple sides. Generally its just easier to limit a side to 18-20 minutes and not worry about distortion. I have a couple of records that try to get almost 28-30 per side and it is pretty horrible. Having said all that, vinyl records aren't really the best choice for classical as there is too little dynamic range due to the high noise floor and other than the ones I inherited from my late grandmother I don't buy classical music on the format.
