February 2018 Mega-Blather (Patreon Exclusive)

Here’s a video to keep everyone here on Patreon that supports me updated with my current goings-on while simultaneously answering a few FAQs…and talking nonsense.

Two things you should know before pressing play:

1) There’s an annoying wire dangling into shot at the top left. If I’d noticed it before uploading I would have cropped it out. However since its taken hours for this video to get processed by youtube, we’ll just have to live with it. Perhaps you could scroll it off the top of your screen if it annoys you (it will, now that I've mentioned it).

2) This is the kind of video you could put on in the background while doing other things without really missing out on seeing anything. This is probably the best way to play it, it’s just like a podcast with extraneous video.

February 2018 Mega-Blather (Patreon Exclusive)

Comments

Many thanks and if the Mrs ever returns to her real office and I ever have a half decent idea for a puppet outro then I’ll be posting them here exclusively on Patreon to get around the youtube issues.

Techmoan

I'm obviously late to this thread but, I find your outlook on life's musings etc to be spot on. I maybe the world's youngest gout patient (thankfully under control now) and there's no end to what people think I should do about it. The only one I listen to is my doc. FWIW, it truly is a silver lining that you're inspired enough to make captivating educational content and I thank you for your efforts. My kids and I love the puppets and totally agree that you use them where you can and feel like. Bests!

Eric S. Tyrer II

Thanks I'll be trying my best to take a proper break. If I was being hip, I'd say I was doing a one month 'digital detox', but I'm going in another direction and I've packed my Nintendo Switch. I rarely get a chance to use it at home, but with little to no access to the internet or any projects to work on, I might finally get the opportunity to play a few games. It's either that or read a book...I'll probably do a bit of both as there's a lot of down-time on this holiday and I don't like to sunbathe. I've got four new videos scheduled for you while I'm away, but I have six videos finished. So if I happen to drop dead tomorrow, I can do a 2Pac and continue to release new stuff posthumously.

Techmoan

Have a great holiday with Mrs Techmoan! My partner and I love everything you do on here & YouTube; plus really appreciate the time and effort you put in to your content. I can’t believe your update vid was 45 mins, as it felt like only a few moments ago when we sat down to watch it. Find your stuff so interesting! All the best!

Ben Divers

In the interest of boosting the tally of puppet-lovers above puppet-haters, I'd like to add my support of the puppet shorts and say that I think they are something that really make your videos unique and entertaining. I do understand that if you aren't inspired to make them, then you'd rather do nothing than release something you aren't happy with, so I'll just wait patiently for the next, and thanks for the explanation about it.

Guy Insulator

Matt., I'm an avid collector of old computers, audio, video and radio equipment. I have a storage locker, and all I can say is "Beware Parkinson's Law!!". love the channel, keep up the the good work :-)

Gordo

Great hearing how you manage your illness & take care of yourself. On the blood sugar app topic: Apple added a public programming interface for the NFC chip in iOS 11 (released September 2017).

CONATH

I'm glad to know what's going on with the channel. Have a good holiday! For the record I do enjoy the comedy skits, so if you ever do get another idea I'd be glad to keep watching them. Always a fun surprise at the end of a video, for me.

Vinushika

Enjoy your holiday Mat! Hell of a thing that we have to justify our time off to people these days.

Joon Choi

Really enjoyed this update, Mat. Hope you have a great holiday!

Justin T Lee

No, I'm still here...hard at work trying to make those extra videos. I can see from the comments that there are lots of people who like the outros which is why I'm really determined to only do them when I've got a fun idea and a few passable jokes. Thanks for the encouragement.

Techmoan

Hey Mat! Not sure if you’ve already gone on holiday, but I wanted to let you know that the comedy outros are my favorite part of your channel. I’ve even made a point of showing a number of people the ‘Subaru Legacy’ joke from a few weeks back, because something about the timing seems to just put everybody (at least everybody I know) in stitches. Writers block is an awful thing, and I do hope it passes to ease your frustration if nothing else. Either way, enjoy your holiday!

Skoddie

The LGR episode went up today, definitely entertaining to have you show up on one of my other favorite channels!

Cetega

I would be delighted to see the return of comedy outros whenever you’re next struck by an idea. Special $5.55 milestone?

D and D

A wonderful exclusive. Thank you. Always interesting to get a behind the scenes look. Also please know that the consistent quality of your videos is appreciated. Always well researched, scripted, and shot. On the puppets, I am one of their fans. I think they are part of what makes your channel special. I understand the effort that they take to shoot means we won't see much of them. I also understand that some viewers negative reaction to them is discouraging. That said, if you do bring them back their fans will be very appreciative. Hope your holiday is an enjoyable one.

Charles Morrisey

Thank you Mat, this was a real delight to watch and listen to. A chance for us to all get to know you a little better and understand the challenges you face. I really hope you enjoy your time away, a chance to recharge those batteries. Like many, I too only joined Patreon to enjoy your videos and contribute to a worthy cause. I hope to be enjoying your videos old and new for years to come yet. Thanks again Mat, enterprise out!

Jason S Moore

Ha I understand everything you were citing about Diabetes. was nice to see someone talk about it freely. I also tend to agree, when you put your life in perspective and consider how long you will "probably" be around, some aspects get accelerated. but talking about it or goin on about the lovely horriffic details I have to live with.. really doesn't interest me. I appreciate you cited it, and though you do go on and ramble a bit, you don't belabor the point, which is a masterful way to address it. I hope the holiday is worthwhile. I am curious, on those cruises, have they ever had auctions where you actually bid on something (technology focused) that you got to use for this channel? I had a married couple I knew go on one and they actually bought some art and an expensive full sized coffin... And for what it is worth, LOVE the outro puppets. I don't know why people give you grief for it, and I am sorry it's made it more discouraging. I hope you find a new spark of inspiration and keep going with it. Anything that keeps you excited and enthusiastic is a good thing. And judging by your expression and speech talking about them, I'd say there is a deep affection in you for that stuff.

Sterling Treadwell

Despite all those boxes of stuff, I never seem to have the connector or wire I need but it always magically turns up under my nose as soon as I've ordered a replacement.

Techmoan

Thanks, and I was just as surprised how many subscribers turned up during those 45 minutes too.

Techmoan

Thanks old chap - it's great to be on the receiving end of such a positive message.

Techmoan

Enjoy your holiday, Mat! It's hard to come across someone so genuine, especially on YouTube. Your channel is the reason I created a Patreon account to begin with - wanted you to know there are people out there (across the pond in this case) that really appreciate the amount of effort you put into your videos. As for the glucometer, I work in a specialty pharmacy and I've yet to see any meters come past even half as capable as that one - very neat.

Mark Cockburn

I’ve got two of those racks. They were made by the Napa Valley Box Company and I imported them via eBay from the US, they’re second-hand.

Techmoan

Probably been asked this before, Where did you get your cassette storage from? Cheers.

Mike

Loved this, can't believe people hate the muppets though! Enjoy your holiday :)

Mark Elliott

Don’t stress. Your videos are worth the wait. Just enjoy your vacation, it is well deserved.

Lars Steenberg

Thanks for this Mat. I think it's a great part of the whole the Patron/Patreon thing that we can "get to know" the people we subscribe to. Letting us on on your life and situation makes this connection better. Your good humour comes across and I for one am delighted that I can be a small part of you enjoying your life more. Enjoy your holiday and have a really good break. Incidentally, I find it quite amusing that you gained 26 subscribers during the Mega-blather! :-) Cheers, Steve.

Stephen Bell

Couple of minute travel updates if you're really worried about not putting videos up - otherwise just enjoy the holiday!

Adam

I don't know why but I do like these videos where you just ramble on about subjects. Enjoy your holiday!

Steve Jewkes

Great video, really nice to see behind the scenes, but also I enjoy the format 😁 I am sure a lot of your viewers appreciate how much effort you put into your videos, it's easy to make a mediocre video and the effort seems to grow exponentially as you try to make it half decent. No body tells you about the boxes, the body boxes! Everywhere! Boxes of stuff valuable enough for you to want to keep but niche enough not to be worth the effort selling. I never thought I see the day when I'd have to ask people to not send free gadgets. Its scary how the projects stack up. Have a good break and not worry about rushing videos out (unless you are enjoying it) we will be patient. You set the schedule and shouldn't feel burdened by it. All the best. Andrew

The Backoffice (Andrew Armstrong)

Thank you for this insight. I hope you have a good holiday!

Adam Medbery

You wouldn't believe how offended the Kyle-class get about affiliate links - its the same morons who hate on every gadget saying "you can do that with a raspberry pi!". I gave up affiliating anything because someone would post non-affiliate links directly below. Its like some people are offended by someone getting a tiny cut for recommending a product.

Jay Roberts

Thanks for the look behind the curtains - coming from a family of diabetics living well into their 80s and 90s, I’d say you have many more good years ahead of you and many more ridiculously bad vinyl players to review. :)

Joon Choi

Thanks Mat mate. Brilliant. Loved the nice long update video... also 1 to 1 feeling and love them funny voices cropping up... Lego Pancreas!!! I think you will find that it has to be Duplo! The health talk is good to talk about.. well to listen to at least. I cant work now becuase of illness etc. I'm Registered Blind with a guide dog. I have Fibromyalgia, Major Anxiety, Depression, Dyslexia and have extreme bad ADHD. This all adds up to a few good days and few bad days. But this can swing all over the place. Buy never know how each day will be. I haven't released a Video on YouTube in over a year due to health but I'm in the process of trying to setup my studio space and get self again ready to do YouTube again and it's people like yourself making such good content that is encouraging me to do it too. When you talk about your health it's help me and probably others. It proves I can do it and has really helped motivate me. You deserve a good break. Just don't stay dead for too long... ! On the subject of dead... The Puppets... Let me guess..Does the hate come from YouTube Comments ? If so.. Ignore them haters. Anyone who likes your work surely couldn't hate on the puppets. They are a good expretion of your and your personality and a really good impression of mostly the people who probably hate them. So don't worry I'm sure most people on here don't agree and Love them. Yeah I understand having no idea's currently and i think it's best having them pop up when you do think of something. I like the surprise when they randomly appear after the credits... I love the End Credits... Not just because my name is there. But I love watching all the lovely machines working away and also helps me remember all the great work you have done and also makes me watch some of the old ones again. I always watch to the very end... Short videos while your on Holiday is fine by me. But I do love the long ones. I caught your Voice on Clints video on LGR yesterday morning when he released it to Patreon. Yup I heard it there before you mentioned it in this video. Also People mention your intro/out Music. Has anyone shazamed it? If so... Interesting Rap Tune. I prefer it has Techmoan Theme without the Rap. Any way. I'm blabbing... Mat your an all round good fella with great talent for Video, great entertainer with exceptional knowledge of the things you show us through your Videos. I scream pure passion of your hobbies and interests which is brilliant to watch You deserve every Subscription and Every Dollar and Quid.. If i could ever buy you a pint I would. I'm only over on the Wirral :)... Keep up the great work... But first go enjoy your nice holiday with Mrs Techmoan. As always... Thank for reading... 😎

Sean Yem

Thank you very much for the update, all details are greatly appreciated. I wish you a happy holiday and rest assured that if I see any YouTube questions I can answer (or that the answer is in the description text box) I will answer them for you. As for the puppets, I hope they come back because I really love them. On the other hand - and I think I'm one of the few people who does this- I use your videos since I suscribed years ago as entertainment as well as to improve my English so putting it in "background sound" is not an option - sometimes I need help and auto captioning helps me ;)

Sergio

Thanks for the update! have a good Holiday!

Wizardteknik

That’s a good idea. I’ll definitely do that now.

Techmoan

Quick tip for a "studio/storage tour" (which you've hinted a bit at): Film some stuff for it now (your current in-house storage as-is), and then film the rest when you have the storage locker organised. Then, you'll have reference footage (for us Patreons), like "this is how it was before, this is how I have it now, after getting things properly stored".

Kim Akerø

Hi Mat, a really great video! Having watched all of your Techmoan videos, I feel like I know you - at least your on-screen persona, and really enjoy it when you just chat informally like this. Sorry to hear how your various health conditions impair your lifestyle; maybe don't be too pessimistic about your potential longevity. My father in law developed adult onset Type 1 diabetes and lived well into his 80s, injecting insulin everyday, and eventually died of unrelated causes - even without a Lego Pancreas.... You mentioned more vinyl record associated items to test/demonstrate, and I am really hoping you're going to look at that record player on Indegogo with a magnetically levitating turntable? Looks intriguing, and bound to get the audiophiles foaming at the mouth. Anyhow, thanks for all the great work you do, I am as amazed as everyone else that anyone had the time and energy to complain to the ASA about the placement of your affiliation notice. Maybe we should envy them that their life is so perfect that that was the worst thing bugging them! Enjoy your cruise - hope you have a great time. Regards.

Roland Bogush

Thank you for sharing! LGR actually released the video about two hours to his Patreon supporters about 2 hours before your post. And also thank you for sharing some of your medical issues with us. It does give a slight insight into what you're dealing with on a daily basis, and for me, it gave me some "comfort" (if that's even the right way to put it) that it's a constant thing, and you're dealing with it (as well as you can, at least). As for the Muppets, I didn't care too much for them at first, but they've kinda grown on me at this point. The advertising notice seems a bit odd, actually. Some people just don't have much of a life, so they're determined to nitpick on everything they can. Don't worry too much about swearing in these Patreon-only videos, though. We're a smaller crowd, and can probably handle the odd swear word, if used in a proper context.

Kim Akerø

Great video Mat. Never underestimate the pettiness of people on the Internet.

Ed Gransaull

Great video, thanks for posting! I'm excited about the Video 2000 recorder you got there :-) Enjoy your vacation. Or holiday, whatever :-)

Jac Goudsmit

Mat . . . I wanted to let you know that I can totally relate to you and your diabetes and the snot in your head. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2006. I know I had a couple of years previous as I had the signs (extreme thirst, feeling like crap etc. Have a good time on your holiday/ vacation. Yes, I'm in the US -- the San Francisco Bay Area to be exact. Getting back to the diabetes thing, I check my blood glucose twice a day. Like you, I have read books and articles about diabetes and how the human body works. I find it most interesting. The human body is like a chemical plant -- producing this enzyme to signal a certain organ, etc. Sorry for rambling on like this. I really enjoy the videos. Take care; Dave

Dave Stares

Thank you for the exclusive video. Love all of them. One of my favorite channels.

JAM HOUSE

I enjoyed the informal nature of this video, kind of like being asked around for a pint. Shows another side of you, Mat.

Mark Grigoleit

I agree that it's a bit absurd to complain about the affiliate text not being prominent enough, but it's also important to have it there. Thanks for staying honest, even if it means putting up with pedants :)

Anonymous

Thanks for sharing! I also love the puppets and get sad to hear that the haters gain ground. I guess that it is hard to just ignore them if you are devoted to making great videos. However you have a fan here and regardless of format I will continue to greatly enjoy your productions. I also hope you get some fun on the vacation too ;)

Jerker Klang

There has to be a comedy video about a Lego pancreas somewhere... Enjoy your holiday and looking forward to whatever videos come out while you're away.

Phil Collins

the outro also allows time on platforms like xbox to leave a like!

Neil Butler

Don’t understand why some people don’t like the puppets, perhaps one of them is the muppet who complained! Hope you and yours have a great break and can enjoy it. Looking forward to the next instalment, however short but never too long, and, partly quote, as always thanks for posting 🙂

Alan

"lego pancreas" made me chuckle. enjoy your holiday!

Neil Butler

I love the puppets as do many many others. Don't let the "haters" dictate what to do and what not to do. Do what YOU think is right. It is simple, youtube video's are free. If you dont like what you see just watch another video. Dont let them get to you. There are so many people just trolling and leaving bad comments just for fun. If people think the puppets are bad, take a look at Internet Comment Etiquette with Erik, he has 660K subscribers only commenting different things in a funny, sarcastic way. (Also not for everyone)

Peter Roubos

I bought a really decent air purifier a couple of months ago and while it's definitely pulling dust out of the air and I'm coughing much less, it seems that the sinuses are much more susceptible to this kind of thing.

Techmoan

P.S. love the puppets, this comment is a bit like your vid keep adding bits to it. from a fellow early retired person. we work harder now than then but not 9 to 5.

Ron Warren

keep up the good work and keep well, enjoy your break.

Ron Warren

Thanks for your time and energy, you keep us all informed and entertained, and love seeing all the old HiFi tech, that I wish I had, or kept.

Ron Warren

I, for one, love the puppets. Maybe you'll find a situation on your cruise to insert them into. That practically writes itself.

Clell Harmon

Enjoy your time off and keep up the good work. Coming from a family with too many diabetics than I rather discuss, I know the struggle and watch my blood sugar regularly too. Look forward to the future videos!

Sean Zoltek

Huh, wow, the elusive "type 1.5" diabetes. Anyway, enjoy your time off, it's much deserved, your output of videos is impressive to me! Also, the puppets are awesome, wish you did that more.

Alexandra Magin

You could do a few of these mega-blathers as holiday filler vids, and I mean that in all sincerity. There's something very nice about the connection we viewers feel from learning more about you. Cheers for holiday breaks, good health, and many more years of videos.

Ten Digits - Nate

Thanks for sharing, Matt! I hope you have a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation! Oh, and count me as a fan of the puppet skits. I appreciate the time and effort you put into them!

Kitt Thompson

I’ve really enjoyed some of the recent videos where you’ve gone “off script.” Like I’m sitting there listening to you prattle on. Makes me smile. I also hope the puppets return. See you on the other side, assuming you don’t die. You might want to rethink not flying though. The whole head exploding thing would generate lots of views, not to mention taking care of the lack of videos while on holiday.

Keith Johnson

I now exactly what it feels like to have your nose stopped up. I suffered that a lot when I was a kid. You deserve a break!

Wrenly Bewick

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Matt. Yrs truly grew up a few decades ago in an industrial city, where the air was rich with such delicacies as blast furnace gas and micro-sized carbon particulate. I, too, have the "snots" 24/7. A good ENT doc I see also tells me that folks with high palates usually have chronic sinus problems. Oh well, it could be worse!

Roger Beal

Glad to see you are taking a break - you certainly deserve it. The reason why I support you is I am very interested in old electronics and it's much cheaper paying you every month than buying things myself, plus I would never want to get rid of anything and my house is not very large. I very much enjoy the muppets and look forward to seeing them return when you have a good idea for them. Keep up the good work!

Jason Wellband

Let me add my voice in favor of the puppets. At least here on Patreon, it seems most are appreciative of your work making their skits. Perhaps they should become a Patreon exclusive? The YouTube comments section does seem to bring out the trolls. Even if "enjoying" the holiday is not really your thing, I hope you can at least find it a restful or restorative experience. Thank you for sharing the tale of how you came to be doing your videos as a full-time gig, and for letting us in on some of the behind-the-scenes stuff. I appreciate the end result even more knowing some of what it takes to make it happen. I'm glad you can find humor in the ASA letter, although I suspect that it was more humorous in retrospect; I enjoyed just listening to you relate the tale - thanks for sharing it!

CharlieVictor

Puppets - Pure genius Complaint writer - Pure idiot

DisneySaintsFan

I think a mix of longer and shorter videos is just fine! Part of my reason for subscribing to a channel like yours is the feeling of sharing experiences. Just as a mate might wander over with some device and go "look at this, isn't that weird?" Sometimes you both nod in agreement, other times you rip the thing to pieces to find out how it works. It's all good. (Try to) enjoy the cruise; if you get bored, you could sneak in a cheeky video about something you find on board ;-)

Dan Craggs

There's a link in the (normal) video description text boxes. It's called Over Time and it's one of the Youtube Copyright Free library tunes - however if you follow the link you'll see people have come to associate it with my videos, so that whenever anyone uses it - a few people will always say "Hey that's Techmoan's theme" which must thoroughly annoy them.

Techmoan

Please keep the puppets on, we love them. Also I like seeing the clips from the previous shows on the outro so I let it run. I don't see it in the credits or on the web site but where does the music for the intro & outro come from? No, its not the music police asking :)

John Link

You're best avoiding youtube - that's a suckers game. Much better to see and hear from your here - above all the racket.

Techmoan

I don't want to over-blow it, it's much preferable to a proper job with their six monthly appraisals and targets etc. I don't know if I could go back to working for someone else.

Techmoan

It would be nice if it was like that all the time....I think I caught it on a good day. By the way did you get your new car yet? I've been looking at new cars, but just can't part with the Roadster.

Techmoan

And the answer is 26 new YouTube subscribers during the video.

evilution

I've heard just hoe much stress being a youtube creator is. Self-care is probably incredibly important, and it is good that you are taking time for yourself.

Marlo Delfin Gonzales

I'll try - but I can never really enjoy a holiday.

Techmoan

There can be only Juan Rodriguez.

Techmoan

“People were very pleasant once I was dead.” -- I want this on my tombstone. Thanks for another very enjoyable long-format video; I could listen to you blather for hours, sinus issues be damned. I have to say I adore the puppets. I don’t comment on YouTube (the comments there are generally deadly), but I suspect the puppets fanclub is way bigger than the quantity of critical trolls. I hope the skits are back soon!

Giselle V.

Great video. I really enjoy your content. Try to enjoy the holiday!

Bill Browning

You sound exactly like Juan A Rodriguez. Weird.

Jason McMillon

Anyone else hear Pete Donaldson on Absolute Radio mention on his show that he watches Techmoan videos?

evilution

I love your blather videos, Mat, they’re informative and funny and the kind of informal “cosy chat” feel of them. I don’t think paying $5 a month for this kind of thing, plus early access to your YouTube videos, is bad at all, it’s what, £3-odd for a wealth of entertaining content plus the knowledge that our contributions as Patrons is helping keep your channel, well, your career now, going strong. I pay up to three times that amount for monthly streaming services which don’t get a fraction of the value in my house that the Techmoan YouTube channel does. I can only apologise for not signing up to your Patreon sooner; I’d been binge-watching so many of your videos for the past year or so (and ones such as the DAT, Minidisc and Dolby Atmos vids I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched those! Is that weird?...) and I gradually felt more guilty that I’ve had hours and hours of entertainment (and education) from one YouTube channel, all for free. Thank you for your continued hard work, Mat, and you deserve a ton of respect for managing your illness so well too. Enjoy your holiday (I can’t say four weeks on a cruise ship is my ideal break either, though my dad loves those sort of holidays!) and I’m looking forward to what you have planned for the channel in 2018 and beyond.

Jimmy Barnes

Love the Muppet's, love the outro, love your creativity. So far everything you have done is golden. I hope you enjoy your holidays.

Leighton Adlam

Don’t worry about the cable..it was just my attempt at a joke. It’s only Patrons who get to watch this..and they’re all very nice people. The complaint to the ASA though..that guy is a blinking nutter.

Techmoan

I am probably very risky in regards of annoying commentary. I am a german autistic nerd. But hats off — I cannot imagine ever being annoyed by a cable hanging into the picture. Yes, as a perfectionistic creator, I would be. (Which I actually am.) But these people in the audience can easily be sorted out in the first place — just like people complaining about the lack of nonsense compliance. I like to help people to compensate for their personal weaknesses but this is going far into a paranoid neurosis. People who have problems with seeing a cable that would have been there anyway (thinking about all the mess hidden from the audience) do already have enough problems and I think the correct handling is to learn how to deal with it. I just deleted all my social media accounts a few days ago. I think that an online version of a debate club or of a family kitchen table is pretty much the most stupid invention ever and that it is harmful for humanish people like me — by that speaking of everyone really. It is not fear of change — it is the simple property of being a good person that is having a very hard time ignoring growing and spreading stupidity. But I think you simply have to learn that there is no chance of cure waiting on Twitter. Anyway enough, thanks for the insights. Was less surprising than confirmative, nevertheless entertaining. Len

L3P3

Oh, PS my 9 year old niece uses the blood sugar device, sometimes not accurate oddly.

The Beast

What a fascinating insight into your existence. Enjoyed greatly, pleased to be a Patrion. Enjoy your break and I’m sure we’ll not assume you’re dead.

The Beast

Watching now this video i saw the VCR you mentioned getting to work on Twitter (by the way, thanks for answering me there). Might i suggest, if you are tired of floating in ships, a roadtrip through Europe? You can get here by Chunnel (or ferry if the undersea tunnel is a problem because of pressure), then there's a lot to see on the mainland, you can even travel by rail if you don't fancy driving for hours. PS I don't know if it depends on your sinus, but to a motorsport fan like me you sound a bit like Murray Walker.

Riccardo Sacchetto

That’s not a bad idea.

Techmoan

It’s really helped with my control. The last time I had an appointment with the diabetic nurse at the hospital she said my results were now the same as a person with a working pancreas. It’s expensive, but how do you put a price on health. Send your wife my best wishes.

Techmoan

also, since the puppets are rather tongue in cheek, and funny, I would personally watch old British comedy like Mr. Bean for ideas for funny situations to get the puppets into! - remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! - if it works for Mr. Bean, or the other great comedies from Britain (which most folks in USA have never even seen), then it is probably a clever and funny idea to "borrow" ;)

Bill Basch

Great vid, present you as a person, not a presenter. Anyway, my wife has type 1 diab. and we were planing to but that gadget thingamajig since your video review. (We are from serbia, so it was damn near imposible to get one) Anyway, it finaly arrived from uk, we’ll get it in few days, and hopefully, it will kick up a bit her life quality. Thanks mate!

Vladimir Vojnović

I actually enjoy the Patreon credits because the music you picked for it is great. I often park my tablet nearby while I'm doing dishes, and I have no problem letting it continue to play all the way through. Even more of a bonus when the puppets show up at the end, haha.

Cetega

This was a fun and very fascinating video to listen to - you should do more like this! - as far as health issues, we would have never suspected that you had any health issues! - by the way, I learned how to write eye catching search optimized youtube titles from a certain puppet I know! - the puppets are the whole reason I patreoned, because the puppeteering shows talent that is far ahead of other technology review sites that only have one skill set! - please don't let the puppets die off, I realize you can't do them on every video, but once a month would be nice - I bet if you took a poll of your Patrons, the puppet lovers would outweigh the haters by 90% to 10% or more! - why not solicit puppet topic ideas from your subscribers? or your patrons? - let someone else take some of the creative load off! :)

Bill Basch

I have a nerve damage I have suffered problems for the last 7 years. One of the issues is vertigo. It just drives me nuts when people find out I have vertigo and they just can’t wait to tell me about the crystals they form in the inner ear. I’d doesn’t even dawn on them that this would have been on of the very first treatments that would have been done 7 years ago. There is nothing worse then getting advice from someone from the internet. The funny thing is it is like they can’t wait to tell me and they can’t believe you’ve already know it. I get very rude to these people any more I understand why you can’t. But. I will for you. About the wire that’s at the top of the screen. It just cracks me up that that would drive some people so nutty they have to write in and tell you. I love your videos because your just a regular guy doing a report on things I too am interested in. Not the scientific reasons, just shows me how it works. I don’t care how the Pixies travel through the device to make it work. Love your videos. Enjoy your time off on vacation, you have to take care of your diabetes and vacations are needed.

David Christensen

It’s more a heads up as to why videos might be a bit less Techmoan’y over the next few weeks. I didn’t want anyone to think it was like Series 2 of Buck Rogers when everything completely changed and went rubbish without any explanation.

Techmoan

No reason to justify why you need a break from this! Youtube for all its strengths does sometimes create a strange dynamic between creator and consumer. Often times the dissenting voice is magnified whereas the thousands of satisfied customers stay silent. I am glad you continue to do what you do - my wife is also pleased that I can pay my Patreon money and watch you get cool retro stuff to repair and discuss rather than me buying a load of gear myself and having it all over the house! I am pleased to see you have a long list of new ideas for the next few months! I would say it's on you to find the lowest stress way to create your product at the rate that works for your life - I would ignore the crazy comments you get from the Internet crazy people. For me, the depth of research and quality of explanation in the videos make the channel unique... and I think we all recognize that requires time... plus regular breaks. So enjoy your holiday!

David Roberts

I meant to tie it together more neatly...but the whole getting ill thing really puts these petty issues into perspective. The bloke who complained (and it almost certainly will be a bloke) is probably perfectly fit and healthy without a real care in the world. No one in his family will be dying of anything, he won’t have money problems and he won’t be getting bullied at work. It’s amazing how people can’t see what they’ve got until it’s gone. These are probably the best days of his life and he’s wasting them complaining about text boxes on YouTube. As I’ve said many times recently, ‘There’s nowt so queer as folk’.

Techmoan

Love these kind of videos Matt. It’s like a commentary track but the director is talking about a lot more than it was intentioned. And it makes it exiting to follow you, because you invite us into some of your life, telling how you feel and such. And actually I just watched LGRs video before this, and love how you guys (and Nostalgia Need and 8 Bit guy) help each other out. Looking forward to your videos. And love the puppets. :)

Mikkel Graugaard Hansen

Hi Matt. I've probably said this before but I love these candid ramble videos and that one was great. Regarding the person who complained to the ASA - some people are just like that. I think it gives them a sense of purpose and validity. I work for a charity and, as you can imagine, we have very little money to work with but I often get emails the start with "You people...." and then go into a rant as to why we aren't doing something that would cost thousands. Oddly, if you ever confront someone like that they back down very quickly! Anyway, enjoy your holiday and don't worry, we'll all be here when you get back.

Steve Rose

Just in time to put on while filming a bunch of tedious stuff! And wow, just got to the point where you're describing the ASA complaint. That is some next-level absurdity on the part of YouTube viewers being... YouTube viewers.

LGR

If it’s to do with testing for diabetes, let me know and I’ll give you a tip.

Techmoan

I'm going for a blood test tomorrow, and I'm feeling a bit better about facing the stuff it might reveal (and about my fears with the procedure) :) I wish you the best of health Matt!

István Nagy

If I get another good idea for them, they’ll definitely be back.

Techmoan

just a quick note, i think the puppets at the end are really great. please keep them in.

Tim Wilcox

So when is the video about that dangling wire coming out? Edit: just got caught out by the enter means post not newline thing. Enjoy the holliers Mat.

Brian Condron

Yes it’s the same with me my continuous all-year-round cold then causes the membranes to swell and block everything off. I use a nasal spray before recording to open everything up for a couple of hours, and I did today...but I’ve heard about the arrhythmia side-effects and that’s something I have to be mindful of too, so I only use this as sparingly as possible. When you get to my age and you start to see people you know that are younger than you dying from things like cancer you’re just thankful that you’re still here, even if things aren’t perfect.

Techmoan

Watched the whole thing. Believe me, I understand about the nasal issues. I get complaints sometimes about my nose being clogged up. But the truth is, I've been that way all my life. It isn't snot, it is just the nasal membranes swell up and seal everything off. Some days they open up, some days they don't. I can't plan around it. So I just have to record whether my nose is clogged up or not. I've been to various doctors and tried various things. The only thing that works is Afrin, but I took that for a while and ended up with the hospital with heart arrhythmia due to it. So I just ignore it and move on. Often I get people suggesting all of these various cures, which I just have to ignore because they don't know what they are talking about. Anyway, I've always thought you sounded a bit clogged up too, but with your accent being very different from mine, sometimes I wasn't sure if it was just the accent or if you had similar problems to me. I've never seen any comments on your videos about it. Anyway.. there was something else you mentioned I was going to comment on and I forgot what it was. Also, I

Have a nice holiday. Thanks for sharing and for the info on future videoes. My Patreon keeps running to You as long as You want to make videoes...and maybe even after. Thank You for all the hours of entertainment. Peter Denmark.

Peter Jensen

enjoy the break

John Catterall

Probably best not to tell people I’m away, just in case someone knows where I live. Just telling them I’m not dead will be fine.

Techmoan

I like the "talking nonsense" part the most ;) And I have not noticed a dangling wire. Not gonna rewind it for that, hehe. Have a nice holiday, you certainly have earned it and you might even need it bady. I will try my best and keep telling commenters that you are on holiday and not dead in case they start getting "funny".

Holger P Kleinert

Matt, if you ever change your mind and decide to sell rather than sell, you could have the coolest boot sale ever :)

David Simmons

Enjoy your holiday, everyone deserves a break occasionally.

Dave Ahern

Its amazing people are complaining on youtube about the puppets, they are HILARIOUS, if they don't want to see them how is it so impossible for them to stop the video... there is even a warning about it before it happens.

Jeremy Heiden

It's like seeing the wizard lifting the curtain to reveal he is just an ordinary man. I am speechless.

Chris Shaw

Most enjoyable blather!

Rand Gray

There's something clever that I want to do with that when I get around to showing it - but it's going to take some time for me to set-up.

Techmoan

I thought that in the next behind the scenes video you were gonna tell us about the mystery keyboard, that isn’t a Minitel, that one one of the puppets uses. Such a tease! ;-)

Jason Thain

Maybe next year...although I'm not good with asking for help, I like to try and do everything myself, then I've only got myself to blame when things go wrong.

Techmoan

...and that's without a drink.

Techmoan

Thanks old chap.

Techmoan

Running a museum comes a close third behind burning all your money or buying a boat in a list of most efficient ways to make yourself bankrupt.

Techmoan

Oh yes - but a pain shared is....errr something about halved or doubled or something.

Techmoan

You might have noticed that I've now added such a pedantic Affiliation notice it borders on sarcasm. However since the nutter who complained could in theory go back and make the same complaint about any one of my previous videos and thereby trigger the dreaded second infringement, I had to spend a day copying and pasting this overly long affiliation notice to every single one of my hundreds of videos...so that was fun, and time well spent.

Techmoan

Wow, that was quite a blather, but I loved every minute of it, thanks!

Dan Smith

I know 8 Bit Guy has the same problem regarding storage. Perhaps there should be a "Techmoan Museum of Technological History" so that a wider audience can learn about this stuff physically? ;)

Ralph Little

Thanks for the video; always enjoy these behind the scenes videos. I agree it's ludicrous regarding the affiliate issue letter. Enjoy your holiday!

Brian Chaloux

Great video, really enjoy the behind the scenes look! "This is the advert police. We have reviewed your Philips Viva Pasta Maker Review and demand one additional asterisk on each side of your affiliated links notice in order to ensure adequate prominence. Your prompt compliance will ensure no further disciplinary action."

Colin Bartlett

Fab, as always 👍

Mark Heslop

Why not allow people to submit videos to help out while you are on holiday? I've seen some such as EEVBlog do this and it worked well. Just an idea. Love your vids.

OldSchoolStereo

It's an idea - but unfortunately without a history of doing it in the past, I think it would be a massive shock to the majority of the viewers. Perhaps something I should consider for the future when I have a bit more time to plan ahead.

Techmoan

You do know that I wouldn't have noticed that wire if you hadn't mentioned it, right?

Peter Korsten

"There's some weird people out there" - Understatement of the century! Great videos Mat, excited for more! Also, I don't want to be "that person" chipping in with unwanted ideas, but as a thought for videos during your holiday: YouTuber Tom Scott goes on holiday for about a month every now and then, and while he is away, he gets guest videos to show. He asks smaller YouTubers to pitch ideas, vets the videos to make sure they are of good quality and fit well with the channel, then queues them to be released on his channel while away. Mean he gets 4 weeks off, and some smaller creators get some exposure! Just a thought!!

Zak Talbot

Indeed ... April 1 is coming up. ;)

Jason Olshefsky

Love the impromptu "muppet voice" in the middle of your medical lecture!!! Awesome! You should do an entire episode in your "muppet voice" one day just to mess with first-time viewers.
