I’ve had this one on my to-do shelf for a couple of years, but I’ve finally decided it's time to make a video about it.
A bit of background info......I make a point of avoiding watching videos about the subjects I’ll be covering so that I’m coming into them with a fresh/untarnished perspective. When I tried to research the Atari Video Music online, everything I read said it was a very rare device. So after I managed to buy one in 2014 I went onto youtube and typed in ‘Atari Video Music’ to check if my video would be the first one about this seemingly rare object…and was more than a tad disappointed.
There were already dozens of videos. For something that is supposed to be incredibly rare, it seems that everyone with a youtube channel owns one. So I decided to move it to the back of the queue. There was no point rushing to make a video about something so well covered.
I felt that it was an opportune time to get this video made now because in the last couple of weeks a few things came together that made it possible. I received a cassette of music from a patreon…Anders Enger Jensen http://eox.no that was ideal to demonstrate the device with. I’d also recently bought a new cassette deck and a CRT and could use the amplified speakers I reviewed back in February.
It had also begun to play on my mind a little. The device was working when I bought it but old electronics don’t last forever...so I set about ordering the last few things I needed for the shoot so I could finally record this unusual device for posterity.
Also as a bit of a test run for the upcoming making-of video, I shot a bit of behind the scenes footage for Patreon just before I started editing this video together. Much of this information ended up being incorporated in the main video, so it’s not an essential watch, but if you do want to see it - here’s the link https://youtu.be/GuD1XS-xGJA
Oh and a quick message to Tevo - apologies for the typo on your name in the credits - it'll be right on the next video.
