patreon

Hello,

The video pretty much explains it all, but popular demand has dragged me onto Patreon. I've never attempted crowd funding before and am still rather unsure about asking people to help fund my endeavours.

So if this doesn't sit right with you, there's no obligation - you can just keep watching the free videos.

It is important to remember on Patreon you can start, stop and adjust your donations at any time, so there's no need to get tied into this. If you've enjoyed one of the past videos, perhaps I've saved you some money - you could always throw $1 in and then turn off the monthly subscription to avoid paying any more.

Regardless of what you choose to do... as always, thanks for watching.

Unfortunately the one you see in the most recent video is packed away behind a years worth of stuff. The clip I used was taken from an old video. Sorry. The RT-909 in the HiFi is set-up all the time, but also surrounded with the rest of the HiFi.

Hi Matt Would it be possible for you to record 6 mins of that beautiful reel to to reel you have for me to set my music to? I’ll pay you for your time or become a Patreon Thanks Scott

Sonny Ranger

Thanks - even on a break I'm still thinking about the next video, but I'm going to take a couple of weeks off soon.

Techmoan

Matt... You cover such a variety of technology, I'm always coming back for more. Keep up the good work! And, don't forget to take a break if you need to.

I don't know why the comments were disabled...I've opened them up now, but I don't actively read them after the first 24hrs...with the comments I get on 400+ videos that would be a full time job for two people.

Techmoan

Is there some controversy regarding the video on Feb 10, 2016 that corresponds to this first post? I see the YouTube comments are disabled. The video looks like a great piece of work as always. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsQafEQUfbo Since I can't comment in the video: In the future if you are replacing indicator lamps, I'd suggest checking see if screw-in/plug-in mini LED light adaptations are available. That would eliminate the need for you or someone else to have to replace those filament lamps again in the future. Eventually the supply of these mini lamps is going to disappear, especially the tiny "grain of wheat" incandescents in some device indicators.

Thanks - remember if you think of any unusual video topics, I'd like to hear about them to add to my to-do list.

I'm amazed about how professional your videos are. But more importantly how interesting. I think I'm a little bit older than you but I share the same nostalgia for old technology. You have inspired me to start collecting. From eBay I have bought a 1970s JVC separate system including a record deck. I also like the sequences of the puppets taking the p out of pedants. Keep up the good work, Love Simon.

Hey, been watching you channel since the wire recorder review and ended up watching all your previous videos! Absolutely love your channel and will definitely donate to you! Keep up the good vids!

I stumbled across your videos on Youtube by happenstance and glad I did. Really enjoy the reviews; especially the retro tech ones. Happy to be a new Patreon supporter to help fund your work.

Bella - Just seen your comment - and thanks for the offer, but I'll decline. I have lots of things I want to get to first.

Techmoan

Hi Mat, love your Youtube channel so much. Our company currently launches some new items: bluetooth speakers, doorbell, type c cable and hub. I'm wondering if you are interested in reviewing them on your Yourube channel. We will send you the samples you need. But you mentioned on your Youtube's bio DO NOT accept any kind of money and free samples. SO if you'd like to buy the sample, I don't think you will refuse a discount. Looking forward to hearing back and to working with you. Thanks in advance!

Hello Matt just saying hi,love your videos especially the ones with the old tech very interesting and different.

Unfortunately a number of people were flashing old firmware on newer and incompatible devices (for some bizarre reason) ...and when their devices stopped working they started complaining to me. Some of the files gave false-positives on over sensitive virus detection software. The whole thing became an unnecessary headache, so I took down the files. That was probably about four years ago now.

Techmoan

Hi Mat, You used to have a files/drivers link on your web page. Have you moved it or am I blinder than usual today?

Martin Slater

Thank you. Right now I'm doing nothing other than making videos. I've got four videos in various states of completion at the moment...and a room full of gadgets I haven't started on yet.

Techmoan

You convinced me to set up a Patreon account. Let's see how this works :) For now I've added a (very) small recurring donation since I'm enjoying most of your videos. Thank you and please keep making these :)

Rob

It's definitely going to help pay the bills, so thank you very much.

Techmoan

You're the first person I'm supporting on patreon, love the videos, hope this helps keep them coming!

Luxman is a name that I wasn't at all familiar with until I started looking at old gear. They make some very stylish high-end equipment. I was looking at one of their tape decks on eBay the other week. There are some good bargains to be had with their old gear as the name isn't so well known the prices seem to be a lot more sensible than the equivalent product from a more recognisable brand.

I saw the Tefifon videos show up in my "You may enjoy..." section on the Youtube homepage, and been hooked ever since. Sadly I don't have a lot of vintage HiFi gear of my own, I have a 1978-vintage Luxman amp and a British-made Connoisseur BD1 turntable. They sounds quite nice together, but perhaps just as importantly, are nice things to look at. Keep up the great work mate!

Eric, Google isn't stroking your ego...you also show up first on the list when I google it. For a while I thought Techmoan.com was showing up on Google after just typing the first four characters. That was before I realised it was just looking the most likely result based on my history.

Hi Mat, greetings from The Netherlands. I guess we grew up around the same time and also share an interest in gadgets, technique, video and music. I enjoy the break from everyday life once or twice a week to watch another one of your videos, with the right amount of information, humor and personal opinion. So I decided to make a small recurring donation. Your remark about the buys late at night, after a drink, was very recognizable and considerably reduced the available space at my home ;-) However, I posted just a couple of videos for my own reference, mostly about music gear, which got some views nonetheless. Check ericBdrums on YT if you have the time - or google 'Q Acoustics video' and mine shows up 1st - well, at least on my PC. But maybe it just favors me... Anyway, keep those videos coming. I enjoy them. Cheers, Eric

Thanks Luke. I'll keep my eye out for more appliances to review. Finding unusual gadgets that most people haven't heard about isn't easy, but the pay-off when I use an old gadget for the first time is priceless.

Techmoan

I like the random videos of odd gadgets and also appliances :) thumbs up mate, your really very good at explaining things in laymen terms. Keep up the good work.
