How much do you actually read when you play these type of games?

Ey yo, what's up everyone?

So, actually this was supposed to be an update post - release notice post thing.

Cause you know what? PATCH 10 IS OUT :D

https://www.patreon.com/posts/84416107

However, I am really damn tired, but I can't just delay the patch for that reason.

So instead I want you all to answer this survey cause surveys are funny. Basically, when you play a game like this, how much do you read, and how often do you just skip through? I swear some people literally just hold down ctrl in search of the porn - which is one way to do it I suppose yeah.

I just wonder what percentage that is.

I'll make an actual update post next sunday, cause it has been quite a while.... Reason being that this is the most brutal patch. I swear, I must have made it at least 30% bigger than a regular patch, maybe upwards of 50%, just cause I'm stupid.

Anyways, answer the poll. I'll know if you don't and I know how to send a virus in via smoke signals.

If it gets too boring I will start skipping. I usually don't play through the whole game after that.

I definitely read every line, and start new games to explore all the choices. It's better when the image changes every few lines to give the illusion of forward progress even if the scene is static.

Zach

The first time i try to read most of it, the following times i just skip everything altogether.

The absolute worst offender I came across recently was this human dairy farm game (don't ask, with a premise that fucking weird I just had to know what was going on there). The "story" parts were kinda bad but bearable, but the sex dialogue made me want to cry. I do NOT recommend it. Ravager leans a little too far into "rawr im a dragon" to be honest, and making me think about the rather interesting geometrical challenges involved in getting a ridged dragon dong into a moderately willing elf kinda kills my boner. I like the worldbuilding though, and conquering the land as a dragon has its moments. Similar but differently terrible: ALL the lilith games. The "noises", dirty talk and such during the sex scenes REALLY don't gel with me. The art is absolutely my thing, Kagami is blessed by the titty gods, but man. If the japanese offend you, these games are offensively japanese. I'd have to look to make sure that I am not mixing up two games here, but waifu academy was also kinda cursed in a way. I still enjoy it, the meme-y humor makes my inner 13 year old giggle, but in sex scenes I can really do without it. The game that does porn + humor best is subverse I think. And I still don't get why people are so upsert with it. It delivers exactly what I had hoped for when I first saw it years ago. This is just from the top of my head, if I really think about it I might recall a few more truly cursed abominations. That one Harry Potter parody comes to mind (Considering the flood of garbage there that doesn't even narrow it down as much as I'd like and for the life of me I can't recall the name) Edit: Aaaand a general pet peeve of mine: Make the text fit the godforsaken visual. When I read descriptions for missionary action and look at doggy animations I get turned off. Even worse: When I read shit like a seamless transition from some obscure position not even known to the annotated Karma Sutra by Jeffry Epstein to something equally absurd I want to bite something. When whatever you are describing requires thinking in non euclidian geometry or something blatantly anatomically impossible i'm out.

Ya when games don't move for five minutes it's gives me PowerPoint vibes and I just yeet out of there at that point.

Haha, I get completely what you mean. That's also why I try to make stuff on the screen move as much as often. I don't really like still images for example... At least not for long. Glad you read it all ^^

Leroy2012

Yep! And with a new up date I usually read it again. At least until the game gets to big like Trials in Tainted Space. To much content for sporadic play through. Sometimes it's better to just finish the main story, and then add the extra side dishes.

Joey Bryant

I mean, that makes a lot of sense. Do you replay the entire game every update?

Leroy2012

The more a game takes the basic time to update the image every few lines so it actually appears the characters are talking, the more I actually will innately give it the time of day and read what they wrote. For example, your game, I read practically every line. But as others have said the more it turns to filler and the less the image updates, the more I just start wanting to hit skip. Nothing makes me leave games faster than cringe dialogue, especially when it is like the beginning of the game or something.

Juraks (No Credits)

True. I lose interest in a lot of VN's myself cause there's so much text that just isn't needed.

Leroy2012

I usually read everything the first couple time, but after awhile I just skip it until the new content. Unless there's been a major rework of the older portions.

Joey Bryant

Oh, what games are those latter ones? I know tons of the ones where reading is like taking mental damage, but I can't say I know any where the sex is the problem... Maybe visually if its some strange 3d. I'm glad you like this one down to the text ^^

Leroy2012

I see. That makes a lot of sense. And yeah, I get you don't reread the sex scenes xD That's the same for me, and also why they usually only have 2 variations - the initial one, and then the repeated one. As for ignoring what seems boring, I also think that makes a lot of sense. just gotta make sure it all seems interesting.

Leroy2012

most VN have unneeded filler dialogue that i skip, if it presents itself as an actual game, then I will read it,

rglifer99

Got to admit, in this game I read most of the lines. There are others that I read the relevant parts and some where I just skip all the text to preserve my sanity. And then there are those that I read for the story, where I enjoy the scenes but the writers idea of "erotic" writing makes my eyes bleed. The latter are the worst tbh.

Zitronen tee

I generally read everything, though I am able to read very fast if I don't particularly care to catch all the details. That means I go through the text very fast nonetheless. There are two exceptions though: I do not read through the text of sex scenes that are repeated and I do not read scenes if they only involve characters I dislike and/or they seem particularly boring (e.g. a day trip at the golf course).

DuckTogo

I do :p And if it stays around as it is now i wont have a reason to doubt it. Its moreso cause I put so much time into it, but i had no actual clue how many people cared about "Words". Personally i agree reading the story makes the most sense, but i also know some dont care about it, and i wanted to see how big of a percentage that is. However, as of right now it seems 4/5ish cares about text, which is more than I expected for any average game

Leroy2012

reading the story gives more context and increases my arousal in the sexy scenes. You write a good story and I hope you see there's value in that.
