Dark Souls 3 Lorethrough ► The Legacy of Artorias [#5]

Hey all,

Decided to move a lorethrough video forward because it had been too long.

I always underestimate how long these lorethrough videos take to make. I'll be honest - they're not my favourites to create. The videos I enjoy making the most are ones where I can bring out emotion or explain things succinctly..and these videos are mostly for super lore nerds who want ALL the information in an area. It's like writing an essay, not a film? If that makes sense?

The next two projects get my heart racing tho, so i'm going to follow that feeling this week.

How have you all been?

Dark Souls 3 Lorethrough ► The Legacy of Artorias [#5]

Everything you make is absolutely amazing, regardless of the style of video, so I don't find myself missing one series or the other. I love them all. What Tunafish said about how you can make connections better than everyone else, it's very true. That's what puts you a cut above the rest, in my opinion. I'm sure all of us have been busy and tired, I know I have been since I've been moving from dorms to an apartment. It's so tiring.

I haven't missed much in your recent "15 things..." videos, but there was A LOT I missed in this video. I loved the concept of the Legion, but never put all that together. I also couldn't make a great deal of the connections to DS1 DLC because I never finished it. Thanks again for the video man. Excited for what's to come.

Missing the Prepare to Cry series, but your lorethroughs are awesome for all the content they have. You have the uncanny ability to create links that most people wouldn't be able to connect. I mean, I played the game without thinking much about the lore, but your videos make the game so much deeper for me and so much more fulfilling.

All your videos are always incredible, and I always learn something new! I thought I caught all the "Farron *is* Oolacile" Symbolism but I missed Elizabeth in the cave. I love all your Lorethrough videos because of those small moments like that, but the Prepare To Cry series is always so enjoyable, maybe its because you like doing them more and that passion really shows through. I can't wait to see what comes out next :D

I really love these lorethroughs's but I'm definitely looking forward to some more "prepare to cry" style videos from you, Vaati. These are great because we can follow along as we play, and get the lore that we may have missed in each area. This episode for instance feels like "Farron Woods: The Lore." The Prepare to Cry series is great because it fleshes out the entire story of a single character, this one is great because it gives context for the story that we can find in a particular area. I hope you find a way to enjoy making this series because I certainly enjoy watching it. I also hope you plan to make a series of Prepare to Cry for DS3, and I would hope that you overlap a lot of stuff that you've included in these lore-throughs, I just want to have a single video to watch and learn everything I need to know about any given character. You're the best at these lore explanations, thanks for all the hard work you put in!

Vatti, I've been watching your videos since you started on the first Demon's/Dark Souls videos years ago. I love how you piece it together, the way you weave it into a tapestry for us to view and admire and add to our own interpretations of the world built by Miyazaki. I'll continue to watch, and now support, any content you craft around the SoulsBorne lore. Hell, I may not have been so hyped for Souls-like games like Salt and Sanctuary, EITR, or any of the others that're in the works were it not for your walking us through your interpretation of the history of the games' worlds. Thank you for continuing to create things for us (even if they're hard to do)! Keep it up, mate. You're one of my favorites.

Thanks for this! I'm sorry to hear they're not your favourite to do, and I can understand that. I for one absolutely love these videos though :) Currently in my first playthrough of DS3 and I love being able to see how other people experience the game, your combat style and techniques, and your theories about the world we're going through. It personally makes for a richer experience for me. So thank you for efforts.

It seems to me as if they saw each other as being "possessed" and so, fought themselves.

Ivan Suro

Wouldn't the Abyss Watchers be fighting each other because they would see each other as taken or "tainted" by the Abyss. The Wolf Knight Armor says:Armor of a knight tainted by the dark of the Abyss. The twilight blue cape is damp, and will ever remain so. A vanquished knight left behind only wolf’s blood, and his legacy of duty. The Undead Legion of Farron was formed to bear his torch, and the armor of these Abyss Watchers suggests their own eventual end.

i'm doing good just getting over a sickness- as i watched the video i came to mind that if you dont attack the main abyss watcher it will not attack you and will just stand back and let you fight. this made made me think well if they have lost their sanity then why wait for your 1v1. i don't know but i found myself for the first time going up against this boss not attacking when the other abyss watcher was fighting the main abyss watcher.

Jake Reason

I think that's a good point you bring out. And to add to it I believe there is something where it says they share artorias' blood. (Probably spelled his name wrong)

Carter Walters

While I understand why you may not like making these video, I have to say I do enjoy them. I enjoy learning about not just one person, but about multiple NPCs and how they tie into the area as a whole.

Abject

I've been great: Relevantly, speaking of lore, I've been digging deep into the new Mage: The Awakening book. There's a lot of great iconography in Dark Souls that crosses over well into pen and paper gaming, so this week has been a bumper crop for me.

Ariamaki

I can't watch the video yet, but has anyone noticed that Abyss Watchers act similar to the Healing Church in Bloodborne. Specifically the hunters. The design, the way they treat the abyss like the beasthood in BB. How they'll take down kingdoms for just the slightest sign of Abyss. We know the Healing Church employed hunters to sniff out any sign of it, even going as far as going after potential hosts of the beasthood. Just something interesting relating between the two worlds.
