Dark Souls 3 Lorethrough ► Tales of the Old Gods [#4]

Hey patrons!

This is episode #4, which I decided to call a "Lorethrough" instead of a playthrough. Still having a hard time deciding on what exactly this series is -.-

This episode focuses on all the references to the old deities referenced within the Road of Sacrifices / Crucifixion woods. Knowing the story of the area you fight through can make it so much more significant.

Hope you all enjoyed. I'm focusing 100% on making the best Dark Souls 3 stuff I can..especially at release - and your support lets me do that. We've also had a huge influx of new patrons, so welcome to all the new faces! Thank you for being  a part of this.

Thanks, V. I certainly hope my comment was not discouraging in any way. I can't wait to see the video in full after launch!

Jonathan Grover

yeah, that would be a big help so that i can skip this part of an episode and watch the rest without having this fear, thank you.

Andreas

Thanks for you reply. I totally understand your position and I think that releasing the video pre-launch is the right move for you and your channel. Of course I never think you are forced to do content, I imagine that you are delighted that there is more new stuff to talk about. I do believe that From really messed up, but to be honest, I expect that in the future Souls games will be more aimed at the masses and less to old fans. It is the way of things.

JMR

oh well there will likely be a boss in every episode unfortunately, and i can try write better spoilers in the description

VaatiVidya

No, i didnt mean the thumbnails, i meant that you show the boss, his stages and giving tips how to defeat him was really giving me a bad feeling watching it cause i wanted to experience it myself. So maybe for your next videos a spoiler warning right before you are going to show a boss?

Andreas

Yeah i'll be more careful with the thumbnails

VaatiVidya

Thank you for the feedback, as I said to JMR above, i'm keeping it in mind and I hope you understand why i'm torn.

VaatiVidya

Thank you! And i'm grateful for any feedback (positive or negative) as long as it's politely presented. I'm certainly not above being wrong!

VaatiVidya

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely not "forced", it's just very attractive to be able to work on Dark Souls 3 stuff. A huge breath of fresh air for me. On the other hand, i totally agree that the release is botched. As a result i'm only focusing on Lore stuff pre-release..it preserves as much of the gameplay experiences as possible. I'm debating holding back the next 2 episodes of the Lorethrough till April 12th. If I decide not to, I really hope you understand.

VaatiVidya

I'll second the "More Lore" notion. I love how you find those hidden tidbits and notice the most minute details and I'd love to see more.

Tarradax

refering to your question at the end of the video ... I would like to enjoy more titbits of lore. Tips et cetera you can give later when everybody can play the game. my2cents

I'm saving this one for after the launch. Vaati, I understand that you may be "forced" to do these videos to stay competitive, but to be honest all of this content for DS3 is rubbing me the wrong way. I'm not talking only about your content, but in general. I understand I don't have to watch it, but I think From messed up. Part of what makes this game special was discovering it's secrets along with the community. Now it's sliced and diced so much by the time of release that you could probably search for anything day one and find a post or a video about it, It's the name of the game these days, I know. I just hope that From listens, and next time releases the game concurrently on all regions, and makes sure to limit the coverage of the game until it is released.

JMR

Thank you very much again for this awesome lore-video! As Jonathan Grover I am split in half. But I think as a beginner I am so much overwhelmed with lore and information (DS1, Bloodborne, DS2, DS3) that I am enjoying your videos very much and will forget more than I can remember. So everything is new when I (will) play the games for myself and your voice will accompany me on my journey through all these virtual lands from Fromsoftware.

I'm a patron of yours for the lore videos, but feel free to make content that doesn't completely focus on the lore. Also please ignore any asshole who trys to tell you what to do with your content and when to put it out. You built this channel, we did not. You make quality Souls videos, keep up to good work!

Redd Skair

I like the lore videos best. Especially since if the previous games are any indication it will take me years to get through, so I might as well know what I'm looking for in advance.

Vaati, first of all, I love your content, and I love that you're always pushing yourself to do new things, which I respect. Furthermore, as a souls content maker I understand that there is a pressure on you to deliver unique content as soon as possible from a co petition standpoint. However, I wonder if you'd consider not releasing this video, and others like it, until launch. If you've seen the subreddit, people are very sensitive about spoilers. I really want to watch this to support your channel, but I'm trying hard to keep the novelty of the game preserved until launch. Frankly, even the thumbnail for this video, and the email description, will likely be condemned for spoilers once this is released to the broader audience. I realize you're in a difficult position as a content creator with this staggered release BS. But think of people who might see the thumbnail etc when this video shows up in their YouTube feed, or who read the email. Of course, don't take my word as gospel, if other commenters have no problem with this and I'm the minirty voice, then please ignore. However with how incensed everyone is in the community right now I think it's best to play it safe until launch. Personally, I've always loved your channel for exploring things that were already known, but putting your own spin / interpretations and extensive research on them. I sympathize with the desire to showcase this new content, but personally believe it would be best to shift the focus of your content elsewhere for the time being. Best of luck on your future releases... Can't wait to see your next production!

Jonathan Grover

that Crystal Sage fight looks intense cant wait to try it out for myself when the game comes out

Garrett Pawson

I like this "loretrough" a lot and i really hope you continue it and dont just start a boring lets play of this game. But pls dont spoiler to much about the bosses, that is the only thing i dont want to see until i have killed them myself. Thanks for the work

Andreas

Got the Japanese version because I couldn't wait to play it, and not knowing a word of the language is in no way hampering the gameplay. Glad to have you to get a hold on the story

Sol_X_Luna

From someone who is avoiding watching your previous content until release, does this bring up many spoilers of the DkS3 story, or the bosses you fight? Or is it something which you think would not greatly impact a first playthrough (perhaps even enhance it)?

Dreganius

Awesome, going to watch this right now
