Bloodborne's Lore ► Translated!

Heyo patrons,

So this one is..probably as in-depth as they come. We discovered a few significant discrepancies between the japanese & english, and many insignificant ones!

If nothing else - we can look at the descriptions in-game now and be confident in our interpretations now that this research has been done.

I agree that Maria is a strong candidate for the betrayer. From what we know, it makes sense that she grew disillusioned with the scholars and the hunters' association with them. Her ties to Cainhurst help solidify the case. Interestingly, The Rakuyo description states that "she frowned upon blood blades, despite being a distant relative of the queen", but that "one day, she abandoned her beloved Rakuyo, casting it into a dark well, when she could stomach it no longer." This day would have been the day she officially switched allegiances. She then began using the blood blades of Cainhurst that we see in her boss fight. Of course, there is still very much a possibility that the betrayer was a scholar-- one of Laurence's peers during his time at Byrgenwerth.

Great video. Like you yourself said these small things can give a whole new meaning to many things in the game lore. Really interesting!

Is Rom really a "he"? I seem to remember an earlier video mentioning that Rom used to be a female Byrgenwerth student that had ascended

Even the smaller discrepancies are very interesting.

It is amazing, the difference that language can make. Sometimes I wonder if we might not come to different conclusions entirely if we understood the lore in its own language. Are there any Japanese lorekeepers that you know of?
