Before and After - Zero Edition

Before:

After:

As you can see, the difference is substantial if you compare the renders side by side.

Moving forward, the characters should have less of a 'baby face', and look more mature with more human-like features.

I've been in shock for a while now. The difference is substantial, and not having this issue in the beginning may have significantly improved my fanbase. I've gotten numerous complaints about the way the girls look in my works, and... well, now I know why.

Why didn't I realize this before? When you work with characters for hours and hours a day, they begin to look normal to you. I honestly didn't even notice that Avalon had large eyes and irises. They look normal to me, because I spent many, many hours with her.

This marks a major shift in my work moving forward. I'm not sure how this is going to affect my fanbase, but I strongly feel like it's a step in the right direction. It'll take some time for myself, and everyone I'm sure, to adjust to the changes. In the end, though, I think they are a significant improvement and I'm excited to work with my models how they were supposed to look in the first place.

I need your support now more than ever. And I don't mean financially. This year has taken a heavy toll on me. From APAT being rejected on Steam, to having issues with itch.io, and now finding out that I've been essentially working with a handicap for two and a half years... I'm in a pretty rough place right now.

I'm going to take the day to recompose myself. Tomorrow, I think I might test out a system of doing maybe ten renders a day that I rework. If it takes an hour a day to get the Chapter One renders redone, then I won't lose too much time to this project. I'll start working on Chapter 2 with the new models.

Thanks again for all your support.

Yeah, I felt like the chin was a bit off too. I've made additional adjustments. I honestly don't think people are even going to notice the change. I might leave the majority of the old renders alone. We'll see. Sure glad to hear you enjoyed the game! Man, I had a lot of fun making it. I'm excited to keep going. Hopefully another release in June. Thank you for the support, TheBigOne!

Wow, A moment of Bliss made a rocket start. Compliments, I like all your stories and Avalon in particolar. On the renders ... yes, the eyes are better but the isn't the chin to much triangular and pointed in the new version ?

TheBigOne

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm going to work hard to keep the great content coming. Thank you for your support!

Oh one other thing. A beautiful, snorting animator with the name of Nixie Charm, you just gotta love it.

Just finished AMOB and am really a happy guy! I love where this is probably going. Seeing so much of Petal in the chapter put a big old smile on my face. Since I am more interested in the story and not the illustrations (*cough cough* sure I am), changing the looks of the girls won't faze me in the least. They are adorable and lovely because of the way you portray them. Thank you Lockheart and I have to say please keep Penny in your thoughts until the community is ready for her story.

Lol. A very interesting jungle adventure you came up with there. You're right, I'm sure. I might just leave most of the old renders alone. I'm still debating, but there will of course be a few that I have to change. Especially regarding Suzi because I have to make more renders of her for additional phone outfits. Perhaps the change will be subtle enough that most people don't even notice. Some will, but I'll just have to explain the change at the end of each chapter or something. Thank you for the words of encouragement, Lemon. It's been a rough year so far. It's nice to have good people give me little boosts like this. I appreciate it.

I think you may overestimate the size and resolution of most of the screens your characters are being displayed on. Plus we're all half blind because we spent nearly every waking hour of the last two years squinting at one. She definitely does look different, it's just the kind of difference I needed to clean my glasses, then my laptop screen, and then read a detailed description of in order to see. Petal always came across as exactly who you intended her to be - an adult woman secure in her sexuality, knowledgeable of her own, admittedly very weird, desires, and confident in their pursuit. Which is to say "relentless" and Intermittently "terrifying". She's like a conquistador on the trail of a golden city. Oh. Wow. You know, Petal absolutely would march an army to certain death searching a trackless jungle for the MC. If he ended up in one for some reason, and she somehow acquired an army. (Oh my god, a "Fitzcarraldo" special chapter! Penny would fit in perfectly! She could be a native guide who's advice Petal constantly ignores, keeping them alive despite themselves. And the whole thing a comedy.)

I Liked the style of the ladies and did not care that they were a bit different when compared to many other female models. I'm sticking with you regardless of whether or not you change the models using this new knowledge. I would give a revised Avalon and Petal a try but I'm not sure that the revised models are going to make me care anymore than I already do about their stories! For A Moment of Bliss, it does make sense to consider the redo as a priority since, as you said, it could increase your fanbase and might just open the door for Bliss on Steam (and who knows - maybe a revised APAT down the road).

Petal was amazing! I loved that character and now she is even better. One of the most beautiful model I’ve ever seen. Great job ❤️

I like the new render and think it gives her more life and character. She seems to literally come alive.

Once again you have inspired me to up my level of support. No reply needed, thank you.

Thank you, mcmct. I'm confident that the future of my artwork will be more in line with what I want my style to be, and not what some error spits out. I still worked hard on my past models, and I do think they have a certain special flair to them. Thanks for the support. I appreciate it a lot. :-)

Your creations are flawless in the eyes of this fan. Their beauty is in the love that you put into their creation. Minor esthetic choices, are always questioned by the artist, the creator. I am in awe of both versions and can only say, thank you for what you do.

Thank you, Ghost Indian. My issue with the artistic choice is that it was not my choice. It was an error. I didn't actually want my characters to look the way they do. Moving forward, I'll be able to have a clean canvas and I'll have the opportunity to make the characters look the way I want them to.

Brother... I am an artist in general and a graphic artist by training. It's all about esthetic. The old renders have a certain style to them and had you not notified anyone of the disparity to your own esthetic no one would have ever complained. However, at this point it's about you producing the product you're happy with. Subjectively, the new render is as you describe it... it is more lifelike and makes the character look older. However I think you should not imagine that the older renders were, in any way, not visually appealing in at least the same way. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to be objective as an artist. And no matter what we do NO ONE sees what we produce through either the same lens that we do nor any other. Beauty (and so much more) is in the eye of the beholder. If you're happy with your product... and you should be... that is enough. The measure of value that comes from others appreciating what you're doing just enhances and increases that joy of art. You're killing it, in my opinion.

Ghost Indian

I always figured you were going for a stylized look somewhere between Alita & natural lol. I loved Avalon's model! Honestly both Petals look good to me too, one is more sweet/innocent and the other more sexy/sultry. You look at them every day, but having not played APAT in a couple months, I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference. I wouldn't stress over re-rendering Ch 1. Maybe as part of a v1.0 release, once the other chapters are completed. Perhaps a poll would help reassure you? I think your supports would agree that your engaging stories & character development are what truly keep us coming back!

Yes, it is an improvement. And I like it. But I don't think it is sooo dramatic. The not-so hyperrealistic models are something like your trademark for me. and as said before, their personalities were always more important than their appearance.

anders

I'm not sure what it will do with your fanbase, but I'm still in! Actually, as you say that working with your characters day-to-day you get used to the way they look - in playing them you do as well. I have no issue with the way they used to look, nor in the "new look" I was more taken by their "virtual personalities" as we came to know the characters. Just like when you have a girlfriend, co-worker, or family member - you tend to look past the external and "look at" the entire character/person. So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm good either way. LOL!!
