Great reaction. When Count Rugen hits Westley over the head, Cary Elwes told Christopher Guest to go ahead and hit him for real. Guest hit Elwes hard enough to knock him unconscious, and lacerate the top of his head. Production was shut down for the day while Elwes went to the hospital. Robin Wright and Cary Elwes were smitten with each other during filming, which naturally helped their chemistry in the movie. Elwes said he "couldn't concentrate on much of anything after that first encounter with Robin." Most of the movie was filmed on location in England. The castle used for the film was Haddon Hall, a fortified country house (not a castle as such) that dates to before 1087 (when it was listed in the Domesday Book). The tapestries in Haddon Hall interiors are original, dating to the late Medieval and Renaissance periods. Although Christopher Guest plays a Count in this film (Count Rugen) in real life he is a Baron; 5th Baron Haden-Guest of Saling in Essex, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

Happy Monday, Camilla. I'm so glad that you enjoyed The Princess Bride (1987). This was something light-hearted that you needed after Band of Brothers. I own this movie on DVD as a double-sided disc with the Widescreen (1.85:1) version on Side A and the Full Screen (1.33:1) version on Side B, the latter is in open matte.
