Band of Brothers - Episode 7 - Full Length Reaction

And we have to remind ourselves that the real men of Easy Company actually had to live through all of this. I couldn't blame any of those men if they broke down in tears trying to tell me of the hell that was Normandy, Holland, Bastogne and Foy. Sadly all the men of E.C. are gone but i am glad this series was able to tell their story and educate people on things about WW2 that they didn't know about.

In several episodes now the men have talked about their expectation of being taken off the line. Unlike a regular infantry division which was designed for extended contact with the enemy and had heavy weapons and artillery to deal with almost any situation an Airborne division was very light. All it's equipment had to be air transportable so it didn't have the heavy weapons and artillery of regular infantry. They were supposed to be dropped behind enemy lines and seize an objective. After just a few days regular infantry would relieve them and they would be brought back to a base to prepare for the next jump. Being left in the front line for months during and after the battle of Bastogne was completely against normal army doctrine which is why they always expected to be pulled off the line and were surprised every time it didn't happen.

They went to the bathroom in the foxholes because it was too dangerous to get out of them.

Camilla, the barrages depicted in this episode were the result of German artillery; like the guns that Winters and Easy destroyed on D-Day at Brecourt Manor. I continue to appreciate that you understand and recognize that while we as spectators may find certain soldiers lacking in one way or another, that some of that is the need to maintain a narrative, whereas another part is that the show is based on the recollections and perspectives of Easy. And bottom line, all of the people who served, all of the civilians who pitched in, have our utmost respect and admiration for what they did. I would never claim to be able to do more. Oh, and as for Guarnere’s accent sounding different to you, I think it may have been that clenching his teeth to portray how cold it was perhaps accounted for that. In reality, the set was quite hot and the men were having to act cold.

While I liked the Speirs run and also the cathedral scene (including the discussion between Lipton and Speirs), my favorite moment: "Alright, I want mortars and grenade launchers on that building till it's gone. When it's gone, I want 1st to go straight in. Forget going around. Everybody else, follow me." --Lt. Speirs

Oversaturated with BoB is fine. Will watch your reactions to Silence of the Lambs (maybe next?) and Titanic (later when you get to it). Also very much looking forward to Pulp Fiction when that happens. I don't really remember Princess Bride but curious and will watch with you.
