Wow, I feel like I'm "over-posting", but a few military definitions might help. (Edit: I see @Clay F beat me to the punch on some of this, but I'm wordier... as usual!) A "bayonet" is a long knife that can be affixed to the front of a rifle for use in close-quarters combat. The night before the Battle of Bloody Gulch (in the hedgerows east of Carentan), the men were ordered to fix bayonets in case the Germans attacked before dawn. In the middle of the night, Sgt. Talbert awakened Pvt. Smith to stand watch, only to have the half-asleep Smith mistake him for a German and stab him twice with his bayonet. That's why you didn't hear a shot; it was the bayonet, not a rifle bullet, that wounded Talbert. Several times you mentioned hearing or seeing explosions without any obvious source nearby. Some were artillery shells, but many were mortar shells. A "mortar" is basically a tube whose back end sits on a metal plate on the ground, whose front end is held at the desired angle and direction by two adjustable legs, and into which small shells can be dropped and fired. Think of it as a miniature artillery cannon that can be carried and operated by only a few men. We saw Easy using them during the Battle of Bloody Gulch, and you'll see them again as the series progresses. The tide of that battle turned when the American tanks arrived. The M4 "Sherman" was the mainstay American tank of the war. While not as heavily armed or armored as some German tanks, it was reliable, easy to produce in large numbers, and served effectively in every theater of the war.

"My back teeth are floating" means "I *really* have to pee!" 🙀

Thanks for the reaction. So much death in war. He didn't shoot him. He stabbed him with bayonett (fixed on the end of the gun). "That's interesting advice." Ok to look away when a soldier is being rolled over (crushed) by a tank. You rarely look away, unlike some other reactors who regularly look away. I guess you will see it in the edit. The Sherman tank (M4 Sherman) (most widely used medium tank by US/Allies in WWII) is an iconic tank in military history, symbolizing the industrial might and innovation of the US during WWII. The tank was named "Sherman" by the British after the American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman.

I may have already said this, but FWIW I'm watching it straight on Netflix and don't get the recaps...

Sorry you've been sick, my friend! I too have been battling something for a couple of weeks, so you get lots of sympathy from me! 😊

Blithe gang! Blithe actually survived his wounds he was just reassigned to another unit so the men of easy company didnt know what happened to him and assumed he had died. He served again with the airborne in the Korean war and was twice decorated for gallantry. He ended up passing away in December of 1967
