Hello! One of the perks you enjoy as a Patron of the Gauntlet is you get access to our Pocket-Sized Play episodes MUCH earlier than the general public.
Malandros: Another Day in Rio will be coming out on the main Pocket-Sized Play feed sometime in late January/early February, but you folks get to here the entire thing this week. Starting right now, we will be releasing one new episode per day in the Patreon feed until the series is complete.
Malandros: Another Day in Rio was originally run as part of Gauntlet Con 2017. It was a three-hour one-shot that has been edited down into four short episodes. The GM is Tom McGrenery. The players are Tyler Lominack, Patrick Knowles, David LaFreniere, and myself. This was one of the very best sessions I had the pleasure of playing in last year, and I’m really excited to present it to you in this format.
In Episode 1, we spend a fair amount of time on the introductory matter, more than we normally do for PSP. There are a couple of reasons for this: 1) the setting for Malandros, 19th century Rio de Janeiro, is very unusual for a roleplaying game, and the time Tom spends explaining the historical background is very helpful for grounding you in the story; and 2) Tom is the author of the game, and his explanation of the gameplay is very valuable.
We get into a little bit of the RP by the end, and when we do, keep an eye out for Tyler’s character, Antonio. Antonio is the absolute fucking worst, but Tyler plays him in a way that makes it fun to hate him. I think you’ll enjoy it.
