Patreon Fee Change

By now, you've probably heard about Patreon changing its fee structure. In case you haven't, the short of it: now Patrons will pay processing fees rather than creators. As creators, we have no say in this change whatsoever. If it was up to me, the Gauntlet would still be paying those fees.

Our pledges have already started to drop, and I suspect it's going to get worse. I'm going to monitor the situation over the next few days and then figure out where we stand with things.

If the fee change makes it impossible for you to continue supporting the Gauntlet, I absolutely understand. This situation is entirely the fault of Patreon.

If you have any questions, please reach out. And thanks for your support.

Yeah, it's tricky. I mean, this situation with Patreon is really crappy. They rolled this (entirely unwanted) change out really badly. On the other hand, it has taken us a year to build up our Patreon, such as it is. To move to a different platform would cost us literally thousands of dollars (read: cost ME, Jason, thousands of dollars) as we got everyone up to speed on where we moved. The Gauntlet has very real, very expensive monthly operating costs, and those don't go away just because Patreon is being crappy. It's hard.

I dropped from backing 7 patreons to 2. gauntlet is one I continue to support. I'd prefer if you guys weren't using Patreon anymore, but I'm still supporting you.

people can follow you on patreon even if they aren't contributing so you could potentially still communicate with folks here while getting donations elsewhere.
