I'm with you man, watching that ending annoyed TF out of me as well. But in hindsight I think it makes more sense. Shinichi is a pretty emotional and slightly irrational guy, so him slipping into denial makes sense for his character, as annoying as it was to watch.

2024-06-02 10:09:08 +0000 UTCI understand the frustration with him not bodying the Parasyte and still trying to say it’s his mom but I took it as all the guilt from him saying they should go on vacation and him not apologizing for the scar just made his denial of the situation that much stronger.
