I think the Kei textbook analogy is supposed to mean at that this present moment he sees her as a Romance 'textbook' that he will throw away later, but if he successfully learns romance from this 'textbook' maybe he won't throw her away then cuz then he'll understand love and want to keep her

2024-03-28 04:16:50 +0000 UTCYeah I can definitely tell he cares for her given everything they’ve shown this far. I’ve learned at this point Koji isn’t as cold as the show portrays him. He just truly doesn’t understand people and things like romance and is hoping to figure all of these things out while at this school.

2024-03-27 20:56:13 +0000 UTCSo talking about Karuizawa Kei, they left out a part of the light novel that i think really reveals what he is thinking: "Would I become irreplaceable to her, never leaving her side? I didn't know. There was a part of me that wished for that to happen. And another part that realized it was impossible. Please, I prayed. In this moment, as I was smiling [not] happily while embracing someone precious to me, I sent up a prayer. As I gently hugged Kei, I silently wished to myself that I would become a young student who would vow to take care of her." So he does want to love her, but he doesn't know what it means from my interpretation.
