Podcast #313 - Questions Wanted!

Hello Friends!

We're all set to record another podcast but would love some more questions from you lovely lot. This is for the TripleJump Podcast! Remember, as our esteemed financial supporters, we'll be exclusively coming to you for weekly discussion topics, so please read the following guidelines before submitting:

- No controversial or naughty questions please

- This is a video game podcast about video games so please keep the questions video-game-related

- Going forwards, we'd love it if you can base your questions on any video game news that drops in the week. It doesn't just have to be big serious stories though, so ask us about anything you find on the web. While we will still answer non-news questions from time to time, we're hoping that with a different focus we can avoid repetition.

- If there's a particular event or happening in the industry that you'd like us to discuss in detail, feel free! We like to address one 'big question' per week to headline each show, and pepper in smaller questions throughout

- Try to avoid topics we've covered before

- "Questions on a postcard" (don't make your question too long!)

- We typically record on Thursday morning, so try to get your questions in by Wednesday afternoon!

Thanks all! We look forward to reading through your offerings, and we can't overstate how much we appreciate your support on Patreon and elsewhere!

love ya <3

Hey BAP I was wondering if you had any gaming themed memories from childhood that pivoted where you are today? I remember going to the Armageddon expo as a child which got me into the comic book store collectibles this fascination is what pushes me to open my own online and market stall in New Zealand. Is there any similar situations that got you into gaming/broadcasting as a profession?

Hey B to A to P With Tony Hawk 3/4 game coming out, it seems at Bam Margera is not going to be in the remake. It is being reported that the reason that he's not in the game due to his personal issues with alcohol and substance abuse. My question is do you think it is ok to remove one of the most popular and well-known characters from a remake or do you think the game should celebrate it's time and place in history, wards and all? Thanks Joach Dicks https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/bam-margera-is-seemingly-not-returning-for-tony-hawks-pro-skater-3-4/

Mellow greetings, BAP! Sony just released an update for the PS3. This news by itself is unremarkable, but I couldn't help but notice a detail in the notes that I didn't know was commonplace: part of the patch seems to be the system renewing software that allows it to play Blu Ray discs and other media. This seems to be referring to video content and not games, but it did spark an interesting notion in my brain: with publishers more and more willing to simply turn off game servers and make them unplayable, what if publishers were to simply shut off access on your console, letting you not play games that you PHYSICALLY own? I've always felt comfortable with the idea that anything I own physically can't be taken away, but if the console requires a key for media that must be updated, it stands to reason that it could be turned off at some point. I shudder to think. What are your thoughts? Suspiciously yours, Ferris Wheeler https://www.eurogamer.net/sonys-ps3-gets-new-system-software-update-19-years-after-release

Hey BAP! Pokémon Legends: Z-A looks...rough, with constant frame drops in battle scenes and an overall lack of polish. This, coupled with Ashtons favourite game, Monster Hunter Wilds launching in a horrendous state on PC has me wondering. Is videogame optimization a dying art? Why do you think developers are putting in less effort to get games running at an acceptable frame rate?

Hi BAP! You spoke last week about Activision confirming their use of AI assets, but since that news dropped it seems like they've gone all in on it. AI-generated adverts for nonexistent Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Crash Bandicoot games have been appearing on social media, serving as market research for projects that may or may not ever actually be made. I want to just say "discuss" because I kind of have too many questions to narrow it down. Why are they OK with such an obviously terrible image being used with their brands? Is this normal for the mobile space and we're only noticing it now because it's got recognisable brands on it? Is this a glimpse into the future of video game marketing, with AI-generated concept art used to gauge interest before any development even starts?

Aw thank you!!

Hi again BAP, It was the Brit awards and the Oscars last weekend and that started me comparing the 'mainstream' coverage of these events to the Game Awards and the gaming BAFTAs who have just announced their nominees. Gaming is clearly still seen as something much more niche, less 'worthy' or perhaps still for kids than music and movies. This is despite the video game industry being worth more than the music and movie industries combined, (according to Dentsu's 2024 State of Gaming report.) The gaming BAFTAs are barely a footnote in mainstream press but the actual TV BAFTAs are often included somewhere on the front pages and on news broadcasts. As a 'senior' gamer I remember being told that once the people that had grown up with games were those who were in positions of authority in businesses and organisations, which they are now, that games would naturally be considered more mainstream. That doesn't seem to have happened, even though a lot of games themselves now cater directly to a more mature audience and have done for many years. Music, movies, TV, books, theatre and traditional sports are treated more respectfully and are seen as more acceptable, even as art, while video games still seem to remain as 'lesser' somehow. Will games ever get that level of respect and recognition, why don't they already? Thanks for all the hard work and entertainment as always.

Hi BAP and/or other combination depending on plops! I don’t have a question this week, but just wanted to say that on Saturday when the episode goes up I will be having transition related facial surgery! I would love a get well soon or “congrats on your new face” message on the podcast to cheer me up over the weekend (though I think the painkillers will do that anyway). Thanks for all the great content. Love you! 🥰 Robyn 🏳️‍⚧️
